The 2010s are drawing to a close. Thank goodness! With that in mind, I saw this thread on Twitter and wanted to pose it to the sport fans here on these dying forums.

For me, it’s gotta be 2016 NBA Finals Game 7. It had everything: superstars at their peak, drama from pillar to post, and superhuman feats of athleticism from some of the greatest to ever play.

What do you think? Any game or match from any sport in any country (combat sports absolutely included) is up for discussion. Post highlights, give backstory, do whatever you like to plead your case. Let’s hear it, you learned doctors!

Super bowl 51. Patriots come back from down 28-3 to win 34-28. First overtime super bowl, biggest postseason comeback, and two dozen other records.

2011 AFC Wildcard: Steelers at Broncos

Game goes to overtime.

On the first play of the game, Tim Tebow hits Demaryius Thomas for an 80 yard TD to win, and bring his total passing yards for the game to 316.

Which also led to various TFFers calling into the Pittsburgh radio station with th best being "Ross from San Diego."

Good morning!
Total homer pick but a genuine contender: Seahawks vs the 49ers in the 2013 NFC Championship. Two juggernauts filled with personalities at the top of their games and two coaches who genuinely loathed each other. The stakes was a trip to the Super Bowl for the winner and, in retrospect, the end of an era for the loser.

The game was a back and forth roller coaster, no weird first half doldrums or gigantic swings in momentum, just a great loving game.

https://youtu.be/cRGTA_GgiXs

And, of course, it ended with one of the most memorable on camera rants of all time.

https://youtu.be/7PH35C7Fhq0

My other pick would be Spurs vs Heat in the 2013 NBA finals. That Bosh rebound set up Ray Allen for maybe the greatest shot I've ever seen in my life. A perfect set of no-look steps from the paint to the sideline, with no time to spare. Those tens of thousands of hours in the gym coming to fruition in that exact moment. Basketball perfection.

i'm trying to think of a bulls game this decade that isn't depressing and all i can think of is all of their dumb streaks they kept going like when Rose and Hinrich beat Golden State to continue their undefeated Thursday Night streak and Jimmy going for 50 as they kept beating the Raptors for like 5 years that got funnier and funnier as the bulls got shittier and the raptors got better.

Coolest sports moment ever for me was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDf1thejjy4

Though game I might go with the 2008 Final Four where Kansas beat the poo poo out of North Carolina just because it's the closest real life approximation I've ever had of me playing an NCAA video game on easy. (edit: Ignore this, forgot we were talking this decade, uh, Kansas beating Duke two years back was cool)

With football, I have soft spots for both the Saints beating the Colts (onside kick, gently caress Peyton Manning) and the Seahawks beating the Broncos (extremely gently caress Peyton Manning).

NBA games, I dunno, there's some cool ones, I think I'll go with Game 4 of the 2011 Lakers-Mavs series because it was fun as hell watching a bunch of Lakers get ejected while Dirk ascended to the Finals over my ex-rooting interest.

I actually really like blowouts, I guess, I'm weird that way. I don't like the tenseness of actual close games, puts me in a pissy mood.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, MAD-2R World
On paper Super Bowl 51 was amazing, but in reality it wasn't actually that great to watch. The Patriots ate poo poo for a half, nothing actually changed in the 3rd quarter (the score went from 21-3 at halftime to 28-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter) and then the Falcons just entered a hell dimension for the 4th quarter and overtime.

Super Bowl 49 had the defending Super Bowl champs (who absolutely *exterminated* Peyton Manning and the Broncos the year before) up against one of the all-around best Patriots teams with Tom Brady in his prime, and both teams just played great for 4 quarters. There were huge plays on offense and defense by both sides from start to finish, there were multiple lead changes, and the ending was the ultimate heart attack play out of nowhere. It's just about a perfect NFL football game to watch from start to finish.

It's really hard to argue against Cavs beating the Warriors in game 7 though.

The 2014 Women's gold medal game was even more dramatic.

It's 2-0 USA with 3:30 left, Canada scores to make it 2-1.

With 1:20 left, Canada has the puck in the offensive zone and their net empty. They pass it back to the point, but a linesman gets in the way and bumps the Canadian player. A US player gets the loose puck and shoots at the empty net and it hits the post. Canada would tie the game 30 seconds later and then win in OT.

The Germany - Brazil game truly is the most absurd football thing this decade, probably more than that.

This had much less implications on anything, but Milan coming back from 3 down to relegation candidates Lecce to win 4-3 was probably the game I’ll remember most.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZtG4gIENbk

Completely unwatchable mess in the first half, and then Boateng just forces his way through to score a hat trick with an ancient center back scoring the winner. The real gem out of all of this was Tiziano Crudelli absolutely losing his poo poo and coming up with BOA BOA BOA TENG TENG TENG on live tv

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I4Np-8thOs

The game meant pretty much nothing, Milan finished in second that season by 4 points to Juventus, but I’ll never forget it.

For American sports it pretty much has to be the respective game 7s of the NBA Finals and World Series in 2016. I'll always remember only being able to watch the last five minutes of each half on my phone because I was at my friend's wedding. I was losing my poo poo at the block and LeBron's attempted chaos dunk while surrounded by my high school friends who don't give a poo poo about sports, and simultaneously getting texts from a Cavs fan who was 30 seconds ahead of me and trying not to look at them due to spoiling the action.

I hate baseball but Cubs-Indians was one of the most enthralling sports events I've ever seen. Living in Chicago for it made it more special. I remember just walking outside after the last out and watching people shoot fireworks off their porches and poo poo.

Some others that come to mind: 2010 Iron Bowl (a better overall game than the Kick Six), Bama-Clemson II, 2013 NBA Finals game 6, Bama-Georgia championship game, Georgia-Oklahoma Rose Bowl, USC-Penn State Rose Bowl, Super Bowls XLIX, LI and LII.

The team I follow the closest (and also the one with perhaps the most success this decade) is Michigan State football, and they have a few great ones:
In 2011, they had two epic games against Wisconsin. We won in East Lansing on a Hail Mary in which the ball bounced off B.J. Cunningham into the hands of Keith Nichol, who got tackled right at the goal line. Replay showed that he crossed the plane. In the Big Ten Championship rematch, Russell Wilson went off on us, but a big punt return late by Keshawn Martin looked like it had set us up in position to win or tie. But it got wiped out because Isaiah Lewis had hit the punter. Wisconsin got a first down and ran the clock out.

In 2013 we won the Rose Bowl by stuffing Stanford on a 4th and 1. Star linebacker Max Bullough was suspended for undisclosed reasons, but backup Kyler Elsworth flew over the line to make the stop.

In 2015 we won the Big Ten Championship game in what is easily the most intense game I've ever attended. The game-winning drive was something like 22 plays that all felt like 3.5-yard runs, capped off with L.J. Scott sticking the ball over the goal line to take a 16-13 lead. It was probably unwatchable on TV for neutral fans, but being in Indianapolis for that was insane.

Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Trouble With the Snap game against Michigan.

Manchester City v. Queens Park Rangers, final game of the Premier League Season. Manchester United is tied with City for points, if both win City wins the title on goal differential.

City give up their 1-0 lead in the 48th minute, but look like they're in excellent shape as QPR has a player sent off a couple minutes later. Then they lovely it up by letting QPR score a short handed goal with about 25 minutes left in the game. They need two goals to win the game, and the title. Meanwhile, Manchester United win their match, and their players are still on the field getting ready for the trophy celebration.

Then, in the second minute of stoppage time, City's Edin Dzeko scores to pull level. They've only got three minutes left, though, and a draw means they finish in second place. So three minutes later, at the very death of the game, City scores again, and win the Premier League in the literal last seconds of the season. Great, great finish.

In a similar vein, the end of the 2011 American League season was pretty amazing (well, not for me, since I'm a Red Sox fan) as the Tampa Bay Rays completed a 9 game comeback in just over a month when they beat the Yankees on the final day of the season while the Red Sox blew a lead to the hapless Baltimore Orioles to finish an 8-20 stretch of sheer decrepitude. Game 7 of the 2016 World Series was great. The Indians three run comeback was great, but the fact that there was a RAIN DELAY after nine innings was perfect for a series featuring the teams with the two longest World Series droughts.

There were also a bunch of good Super Bowls, including all but the most recent of the ones with the Patriots. gently caress Mario Manningham, and gently caress Big Dick Nick Foles, but damned if 2012 and 2018 weren't both great for the neutral fans.

Hockey, I'd go with Bruins-Lightning in game 7 of the eastern conference finals. 1-0, great defense and goalkeeping, virtually no penalties. And for basketball, everyone has already said it. I'm going to remember LeBron's chasedown block for the rest of my years, even if I live to be 110.
