If you watch old BTAS, the quality of the animation varies wildly because they used seven different international animation studios in order to get s1 out on time. The ones from AKOM are so bad they fired the firm. TMS/Spectrum were probably the best. TMS animated the title sequence and some other episodes.

"Corporate" should be on everyone's list. It's a more sinister and cynical "Better Off Ted." I also really enjoyed "The Other Two."

Josh Lyman posted:I wish they would remaster LOTR in 4K HDR to stream on Netflix or Prime LOTR is getting a 4k release (maybe) later this year but it's not going to be on either Netflix or Prime. You will have to purchase it. Netflix and Prime rarely get 3rd party studio movies in anything other than 1080p and since New Line was bought by Warner Bros, LOTR would be on HBO Max (and we have yet to see if they are finally going to extend to 4k HDR streaming.) It's also very likely going to be an upscale since it's such a SFX heavy movie and was mastered with a 2k DI. Could still be worth it for the HDR though. More detail here. https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/101419-1400 Fingers crossed for a native 4k remaster though. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 23:08 on Jan 6, 2020 |

Poorly-mastered SD looks like poo poo. There's quite a gulf of quality that exists within DVDs. Some are little better than VHS transfers, others look almost as good as a standard blu-ray. It has a lot to do with what source they used.

Ugly In The Morning posted:Batman Beyond having Batman as a broken shut in was something that blew my mind as a kid, but was a perfect setup to a far future Batman sequel. It's also just one of the more beleivable ends to Batman, barring being killed for drama. He's got a hosed up life and he spends his time doing hosed up things and even the most generous readings of Batman leave a lot of blood and guilt in his hands. When I was a little kid I expected that the heroes we had would grow up with us, that we would see them retire and others take their place. Batman Beyond clicked with me because it seemed like the start of that. Turns out even back then I was following heroes who by all rights should have already retired if it was to be continuous. Plus, anytime there is someone to take over a mantle, they both end up retconning or tucking them away in some alternate universe, and every couple years there's some cosmic crisis to gently caress everything around again. Plus a vocal group of dickheads gets mad every time their successor doesn't confirm to their eugenics plan. I have to think even if DC or Marvel wanted to go hardcore and start letting established IPs die or change if comic book whiners wouldn't rage until they had to reverse course, leaving people a decade forward wondering what was up with their weird one step forward, two weird backflips back.

As long as you have a TV that can handle HDR and Dolby Vision, it's very worth it. You don't get much from the resolution bump, but the color depth is worth it, especially if you like a lot of movies shot on film.

Physical media is still a $6bil /year industry. It's declining, but it ain't dead yet. It's also usually cheaper to buy the physical disc with the digital copy than it is to just buy the digital copy and rentals are like 1/3rd the price too.
