Locke and Key trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EonRi0yQOE I haven't read the comics, but that looks a lot more YA than I expected... feedmyleg fucked around with this message at 16:22 on Jan 8, 2020 |

feedmyleg posted:I haven't read the comics, but that looks a lot more YA than I expected... Yeah it's been a few since I read the comics but I recall they were darker than the Danny Elfman wannabe trailer music would imply. But they could also be going for a change in tone, that reminds me a lot of the promotional stuff for the Unfortunate Events series. I guess I'll give them a re-read, see if the art is as bad as I recall.

The later half of the trailer seemed like it was getting more dark and sinister as it went.

For people saying L&K looks a little YA. Well, the comic is definitely a horror series but all but two of the regular cast are children. And they actually cast some younger actors for this version so I'm oddly okay with them YAing it up a bit. L&K is probably the best modern horror comic and I adore it. L&K is def on my anticipated list, I just keep forgetting that it's actually happening.

It'd be really weird if Fran Drescher and Rachel Bloom were developing a Nanny musical that had nothing to do with the 90's sitcom

A modern reboot where an undocumented immigrant is the nanny for an affluent and well-meaning-but-oblivious Park Slope family would be solid with the right creator behind it.

Aye. THe practical stunt work, in ship-to-ship battles and other action set pieces, is as good as I've ever seen on TV. Toby Stephens is fantastic as Cap'n Flint. It's an interesting mix of fiction and history, with real world pirates like Jack Rackham and Charles Vane alongside Long John Silver and Billy Bones. It's kind of a loose prequel to Treasure Island, I guess. Not every performance is great, but some are outstanding, and some characters you think you don't like end up growing on you. At the very least it told the story it wanted to and wrapped up quite satisfactorily, imo. zoux fucked around with this message at 22:44 on Jan 8, 2020 |

Black Sails is a pirate show that can’t afford to actually spend any significant time at sea, so 95% of the snow takes place on an island dealing with politics. In other words, no, Black Sails is not good.

Netflix put out the second part of Carole & Tuesday and... oof. It isn't bad but the plot kind of meanders into this whole political thing that never seems like it actually has anything to do with Carole or Tuesday even though it should. It also has very little conflict involving Carole and Tuesday instead putting everything off on Angela, who gets a raw deal. The season also just kind of ends.

Eh, everything seemed to be set up to be solved by that finale. Yeah, it was meandering, but angela and the election seemed like tools to show how C&T affected things. I do kind of wish there was more drama around her being Valerie's daughter though.

Netflix have lost their drat minds. First they turn Gwenyth Paltrow's scam buisness into a tv show for rich morons. Now they have a show called Medical Police ? Who greenlit that title? Show Summary Doctors Owen Maestro and Lola Spratt leave Children's Hospital and join a secret arm of the CDC to investigate and destroy a deadly global virus.

Yeah Medical Police is pretty much guaranteed to be great. It’s set in Brazil for gods sake. I’ve been watching Huebels YouTube show ‘Do You Want To See a Dead Body’ recently, it’s pretty funny and I like the way it’s always the same concept but each episode takes a pretty different approach.
