I remember being a really devout Hakim Bey fanatic in college because I was really into anarchist poetry and then someone on Facebook was like “please don’t stan a Pedo” and I got very upset, first at him for attacking my hero, and then at Hakim Bey for arguing that, in an advanced society, emotional and sexual relationships with children might not necessarily be predatory. It was a pretty big blow but at least I started doing research on people before I bought their books anymore!

I can see someone essentially getting goatse'd except instead of goatse it's child sexual abuse. There are broken, sick people on the internet who would get a kick out of doing that. Hell, didn't some FYAD folks get banned for buying anime CSA "flags" or whatever? What I can't see is accidentally finding some child porn and continuing to view it or maybe continue looking at the same site; that's a crime, and it doesn't really matter if you were specifically looking for child sexual abuse images in the first place.

Just to be clear: I agree with you and I don't for a second believe there are a significant number of people being prosecuted for accidentally accessing a CSA image. For one thing, there are frequently busts based on computers being searched for unrelated matters, and if all it took to be found and convicted was accidentally accessing one image, these perverts would not be able to accumulate the hundreds of images they frequently have. I imagine, at most, the edge cases are people looking for "barely legal" or "teen" content and then ending up on the wrong side of the line, and it's really pretty difficult to say that's a complete accident. On the other hand, there have been cases of authors getting charged with creating child pornography for including a scene depicting the sexual abuse of a minor in a work of fiction (and not, like, a piece of erotica focused on that specifically), so who knows what an overzealous prosecutor might attempt?
