Alita gets cut into pieces in one scene and become a head with half a torso with one arm. It reminded me of the Robocop 2012 reveal of what is left of Murphy (not sure if that's still the Robocop's name in the reboot). Anyway, I didn't really care about movie violence when I was a kid. I'm way more squeemish as an adult than when I was a child.

It's certainly the worst Marvel movie I've seen. Though Mads had some solid comedic moments, and the climax was inventive.

Despite the setting i found the movie very bland But when they put Strange in those other movies I thought he was one of the best things about them, as they actually gave him more of a personality The arguments between him and Tony were great in IW

Yeah Doctor Strange felt very cookie cutter Marvel with a few neat set pieces. The whole all powerful magic dimension bending thing should make Strange the character they can have the most visual fun with, and instead we got a bunch of magic fist fights.

The scene of dr strange in front of the mirror with his cape is so bad that it has been made an example of the "bathos" in marvel movies. Granted thor 3 had a bunch of that but they were quickly justified or redeemed (thor getting hit by the ball before escaping the tower)

I really loved Doctor Strange  Maybe my expectations of the MCU were in the dumps at the time as I had only just started coming around to liking their movies, but I thought it was visually fantastic and it had a decent origin story. I legit choke up at the slowmo scene where the Ancient One is facing death. Its a moment of somber meditation on the end of a life and it surprised me to see that in an MCU movie. "Death is an insult," there's nothing inherently special about the natural order that justifies it in the face of human suffering, the whole of the cosmos should have open borders, all that jazz. Within the actual narrative of the film, yeah, of course Dormammu has to be a be an imperialist Cthulhu-Satan mashup, and utopia on Earth has to be a self-serving lie, because the underlying ethos of the entire MCU is that the status quo is sacred and anyone seeking the radical transformation of the world is necessarily a psychopath. Dr. Strange just makes it literally about the sacred and the profane, rather than metaphorically.

The Monster Hunter movie is an isekai. The first photos they released are real misleading. They said that modern military guns and poo poo won't work on the monsters and they'll have to hunt them in the traditional MonHun style. Which seems fine. Monster Hunter was never known for its story.

I read a review of "The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson" (directed by the same guy who made the tasteless "The Haunting of Sharon Tate") and apparently the movie doesn't even commit to its central premise that OJ didn't do it, a serial killer who was living in the area at the time did. So when it comes time for the movie to do the murder they completely cover up the killer's skin.

I kind of get the feeling they did that because if you state that OJ didn't do it Nicole Brown Simpson's surviving family will sue the gently caress out of you, and if you state that he did OJ will sue the gently caress out of you instead Any kind of fictional depiction of the murder is in a no-win situation until it passes far enough into history that the surviving major players aren't interested in being litigious about it

Doctor Strange is one of the few movies for which I ended up happy I paid the 3D premium. Visually, at least, I felt it was the most original and distinctive of the Marvel movies. I can appreciate the criticisms of plot, pacing, and characterization, though. Strange's arc is pretty much a carbon copy of Iron Man's. I have to imagine they plan on slotting in Cumberbatch as quipper-in-chief for their next "saga" now that Downey Jr. is out, and they want to protect that status at all costs. Here's hoping they don't manage to surpass ST: Into Darkness as the benchmark for utterly wasting the dude's talent.

I think the best 3D experience (maybe the best cinema experience period) I've ever had was Gravity in IMAX 3D. Totally worth the extra cost.
