Does goth music count as indie? The goth collective I hang out with a lot, Obscura Undead, just put out a 30 track compilation of goth, darkwave, post-punk and deathrock tracks released in 2019. It's good as gently caress and pay what you want! https://obscuraundead.bandcamp.com/album/unobscured-vol-1-comp-1-2019

I was actually about to ask for recommendations of that kind of baby-goth vibe.

Apparently Justin and Sarah of Unwound fame released an album in 2016 as Nocturnal Habits. The album cover's terrible and it only has a few thousand plays on spotify so presumably it got completely ignored but it's pretty good! Kinda follows on from Leaves Turn Inside You. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H1TN3c1hy8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocSWy28b5k8

Growlers are really good. Not sure why I noticed this but basically my top 5 albums of 2019 were all female fronted/written/sung. Great Grandpa - Four of Arrows Sharon Von Etten - Remind me Tomorrow The Regrettes - How Do You Love? Jenny Lewis - On The Line Big Thief - Two Hands

When did Poppy turn into heavy metal / industrial? I am kind of into this new album, with the Grimes collab too, but I swear last time I looked she was cutesy pop.

I guess Poppy parted ways with her old producer and the "I'm Poppy" world died a hard death in 2018. The shift over the past few years have been really good. Past two albums have been really interesting.

She's coming to Tampa soon and all my gothy darkwave friends are really excited about it, but I admit I haven't really listened because her whole aesthetic turns me off for some reason. Maybe I'll give her another listen.

I like it a lot but it doesn’t feel like a standout single lyrically, or maybe in the vocal arrangement. Very curious what the rest is like

I'm not sure if they'll keep it up for the proper tour, but U.S. Girls is going to have a seven singer lineup for three shows next month. It's going to be amazing.

I'm totally down with it though, and love the musical arrangement. The little background vocal and saxophone wails throughout, plus the lyrical content, rub my itch for "tightly controlled emotional breakdown" music.
