why does fl studio cut out a tiny bit at the start of the track? Or maybe soundcloud is doing that.

It's likely Soundcloud, but to make sure, what does it sound like after it's exported and before it's uploaded?

I have this issue with any track I do that starts on the 1 - soundcloud seems to cut off the first half second or so during normal playback (though if you scrub you can get to the beginning).

It's annoying and I always forget to add a beat or two of silence first, so whatever lol.

This is extremely my poo poo. I also make a lot of boombap beats with samples so its nice seeing someone else doing it really well. The overall production and mixing is really good man and your sampling/drums make me a bit jealous. What do you use to make beats?

Thanks a lot man! I have been on Ableton for about ten years now. Drums are a mix of loops and chopped stuff, whatever the track needs at that point. I will PM you a dl code.

This is a quick little sample-flip I did for a contest where we had to flip David Axelrod's "Holy Thursday". That track has almost infinite possibilities when it comes to sampling, but I ended up making something relatively simple and funky.

I like it man! Did you do the scratches on a table or w/a program or what? I have a nice pioneer CD-J I’ve used for scratches in the past but it’s a pain to set up and have to burn poo poo to use so I’ve been casually keeping an eye out for something easier to work into my workflow.

Thanks! I did the scratches myself on my vinyl turntable + mixer and recorded directly into Ableton. Although I have to admit I recorded like 10 minutes of scratching to get a couple of bars that sounded halfway decent. I'm trying to practice scratching when I find time because I really like the texture it can add to beats.

Man that’s the way to do it! I record 20 minute long keyboard jams and end up using about 8 bars of them. I should see if my CD-j has midi, I could probably get something to work with going.

Hey, same here! When you work with circuitbent stuff, lordknows what they're gonna puke up next, so I record long "jam" sessions and then cherry pick the good stuff. Same with field recordings, I'll just set my H2 out on, say, 4th of July/NYD to get the neighborhood fireworks, then snip the good "beats" or samples or whatever.

I have a question I couldn't find a good thread for. When I commission music for some projects. Is there any service I can pay to help me double check that parts of what I get isn't ripped from somewhere?

I'd hate if I get a piece I like and pay for the rights to and work it into a project and then 10 months down the line it turns out to have parts ripped from some 70s anime or an indie games OST.

You can use music licensing services. Here's one: htps://www.cdbabylicensing.com/

CDbaby is my publisher so I happened to have had that one handy.

I think he is more asking for something that could tell if a piece of music samples copyrighted material so he doesn't pay for something only to have it removed a month later because it had a sample from some tv show in it. I don't know of anything like that and while the producer / songwriter should absolutely tell you upfront if there are uncleared samples, that doesn't always happen.

Is there a violin-specific thread or discord on this forum? I found a guitar one and a piano one, but my violin journey has been a bit on the lonesome side.

I posted in the Musician’s Lounge already, but here’s an album the Latin band I’m in finished up late last year:

https://open.spotify.com/album/5CDuiMFKm9HsrldNsdmL0I?si=U_81ie3JRmGGutyPoDLy6A

Edit: I’m the saxophone player for the band and I arrange most of the horn lines.

Edit 2: The band is called Sol De La Noche, and we’d probably be classified into Latin Pop?

Here's some jams from the 5-piece pretty much all improv rock band I play bass in. I guess it would best fit into the genre of stoner rock. I also do the post-mix and don't really know what I'm doing, so quality varies but the riffs are fun:

Haha, a bunch of feedback I got before I posted this said "make the flute more prominent." Maybe I went too far in that direction. It used to be more subtle in the mix and the pads used to be more prominent, maybe I'll keep trying to find the middle ground.
