while we're on this note, i'd just like to throw out there that the fanfic Just an Unorthodox Thief (in which Kirei summons Lupin III instead of Hassan in the 4th HGW) loving rules and has one of the most satisfying resolutions to the whole Matou family thing I've ever seen Lupin strikes a deal with Kariya that involves him stealing Sakura, finds out what's going on with her while casing the Matou house and gets nuclear pissed to the point of busting out the green jacket, and proceeds to: - give Zenigata photos of Sakura in the worm room, claiming that the Matous are involved in child porn - steal Sakura basically out her loving window using a rocket belt, right in front of Zouken who can basically do nothing, and drop her off at the Church to a very, very confused and annoyed Risei - wipe out the entire family fortune of not only the Matou family, but also the Tohsakas (this does not make him like Tokiomi very much either) - let Kirei beat Zouken into loving paste and kill him with the Baptism Rite when he comes looking for Sakura basically from the moment that Lupin III and Zouken Matou become aware of each other in this, it's just an endless procession of the former finding new and exciting ways to completely loving dunk on the latter, which is everything I could possibly want about a story in which Lupin III is in the Fate universe e: Lupin also steals from Gate of Babylon multiple times

Lupin III, as in the thief from anime, as Assassin. and he's not a fictional pull in-story, either, the entire Lupin gang is also around (though Goemon and Fujiko got their own responsibilities in between Lupin dying and Lupin getting summoned) and it's established that Lupin and magi have a history together that tends to make most magi scared shitless of him as if he was a less murdery Kiritsugu whoever wrote it is a pretty big Lupin nerd, too; his characterization is kind of a synthesis of manga Lupin + Woman Called Fujiko Mine Lupin + old-school Red Jacket Lupin, and Green vs. Red, Woman Called Fujiko Mine, and the magician episode of the very first Lupin anime all factor in pretty heavily to the plot (Green vs. Red is basically used as the aftermath of Lupin dying- there's a huge loving flood of Lupin copycats, with Yasuo being agreed as the best of them, and Lupin gets mistaken for a copycat of himself initially) WeedlordGoku69 fucked around with this message at 22:53 on Jan 17, 2020 |

Zouken is pretty competent all around though he's not invincible. But not some chump Fate Strange/Fake gives some hints at this with a certain character saying that they were blocked and prevented from interfering with the 4th and 5th grail war cause of Zouken

So I just got around to watching the first two Heaven's Feel movies. They're very good, though I've never liked Sakura as a love interest for Shirou. Sakura is good as a character and her actions and motivations make perfect sense given her circumstances, but I've just never been remotely sold on her and Shirou having any sort of chemistry (as opposed to Tousaka, where I really like their dynamic). A big part of it is that I generally find "traumatized person who the protagonist wants to protect/save" a very un-compelling sort of romance, and Sakura is an almost comically tragic character. Conceptually I think the idea behind Shirou's HF arc is good and arguably better than the core concept of UBW (his desire to be a hero of justice was basically a misguided thing he adopted from his attachment to Kiritsugu, so it makes sense for character growth to involve him choosing to prioritize the things he values himself), but I'm not a huge fan of the execution, largely because I was never fully sold on Sakura being the thing that motivates him to change. In UBW the theme is that his ideals weren't wrong, but they're not something that need to be shouldered alone, and so the connection he builds with Tohsaka over the story is vital to that. As a side note, these movies were great to try out with the new fancy audio system I've set up. Whole room was shaking during the fights scenes with Berserker. edit: Btw is it ever explained why Cursed Arm is an rear end in a top hat in F/SN but a cool guy in FGO?

Isn't Cursed Arm hosed up in Heaven's Feel because Zouken is kind of having to 'fix' Assassin's summoning after Medea hijacked it? And meanwhile, in FGO, you're actually properly summoning him from the get-go. I don't know if there's anything official to actually support this but that's just always how I've thought of it.

FSN Cursed Arm Hassan is a loyal servant who finds Zouken repulsive but nevertheless both admires his determination (or should we say stubbornness) in clinging to life and empathizes with his suffering (degeneration) given his own loss of identity, plus he's in no position to judge him harshly given the type of servant he is and the methods he uses. It also appears that Zouken genuinely intended for Assassin to survive the HGW since they had enough souls thanks to Gil.

The Alignments turns out to be how characters view themselves instead of objective facts, and Hassan see shismelf as evil. Thus under an evil Master he will be ruthless and horrifying. Meanwhile with a better natured Master we get to see the good sides he doesn't usually acknowledge.
