PinheadSlim posted:This was hilarious and made me think. Has there ever been a greater military boondoggle in fiction or reality than the Death Star? I can't really think of one. Quoting from downtown, but Death Star 1? Yes, especially as designed with the built in weakness. The second is arguable as to how much of a boondoggle it was, as it was effectively an elaborate trap designed to nuke the rebel fleet in one fell swoop (though probably better served by building a ton of Star Destroyers instead). A completed, "no weakness" death star is an insanely powerful thing that can't be ignored, solely because it can ravage planets day in and day out.

It just didn't really help. I've always been a fan of the K-Wing: Basically what happens when the New Republic gets some actual funding and decides they're really sick of the Empire's poo poo with all their fancy Star Destroyers.

Snow Cone Capone posted:TIE Scout: Fun facts: The scout, at least in Legends, was one of the earliest TIE designs, being produced in the waning days of the Republic. It was one of the few hyperdrive equipped TIEs and was designed to be a long range scout ship (duh). It could operate up to six months away from civilization and was one of the biggest TIEs to allow for this storage space. Other scounting variants existed, but they were lacking in hyperdrives, so a carrier ship would have to drop them off, jump back in to hyperspace ASAP, and then rendezvous later on after the recon mission was completed. There also was a civilian version of this ship, the Lone Scout-A, featuring largely the same specs, just not as good of a sensor array, as a civilian wouldn't need the highly sensitive military grade array (among other reasons, natch). However, it had more room for consumables, and was capable of operating up to a year in deep space as opposed to just six months.

Ya know I can't think of any star wars fighters that shoot slugs instead of lasers but I look forward to a multi-page derail about it, and whether the A-10 cannon could feasibly shoot down a TIE
|
# ? Jan 24, 2020 08:27 |
slugthrowers come in literally two varieties in star wars -mundane-rear end normal guns -horrible warcrimes that somehow combine a molecular disruptor and a railgun to blow through armor, personal shielding, solid walls, and innocent bystanders

the dos games made me like the z-95 headhunter for some bizarre reason 1. its dogshit 2. absolute dogshit everything outclasses it 3. used by nobodies who get their rear end kicked by everyone but its okay theyre like six star dollars each 4. when u sit in the cockpit you can hear the ghosts of pilots past weeping at your decision to fly it 5. not even an original looking design its just a shittier x-wing why the gently caress would you want to even look at it 6. cant even claim to be hardcore when using it because the tie-fighter is a bigger death trap i love it
