For some reason the steam website started giving me an http error 500 any time I clicked my cart, but now that has spread to the main page as well so I can't even check it via chrome. I tried looking up the error code but the results said that 500 is just a code that means "it's an error but we don't know what the problem is."

Have any of you experienced this error recently and have found a fix for it?

Apologies if this has been discussed already, I'm not trying to open a can of worms or anything. I picked up the Halo Master Chief collection late last year and finally loaded it up to play it, and it is demanding I sign in with a Microsoft Account (and also there was no exit button, I had to task manager my way out). Is there a way to NOT do this, because I don't have one and have no intentions of making one.

For under a buck (before tax), the one thing I'm going to pick up this sale that I think somebody mentioned here as well as the Games general thread is Tametsi. Not all the puzzles look like this (although they're similar in rules) but it's supposed to be really good if you liked Hexcells, only it is supposed to have more (non-random) Minesweeper influence to it. Here's a RPS review because eh at least it's not Steam.

It requires a Microsoft account for cross-play between the Steam and Microsoft Store versions and possible cross-play that might happen with the Xbone version (but probably won't)

This game is Hexcells but hard, which is a good thing that should induce you and everyone else to buy it. If you complete it (and I haven't yet because hard) maybe try Patterna which is like Tametsi but less user friendly, take notes with EpicPen or something.

I might do that soon. To be honest, I've not used it much and the AAA selection has been pretty stagnant of late.

I dropped £80 for the annual EA one and yeah, I've managed to get that new Star Wars game and Plagues tale out of it but not much else so far.

I'm sure I'll end up saving money in the long run but for the most part I think I'll end up feeling more satisfied having a permanent copy of a big game (like Resident Evil 3) or something bought when it hits a sale.

That doesn't look bad, really. Kind of Sekiro-Nioh-ish, or maybe Toukiden. For under ten dollars I think I'll grab that, the ratings are certainly pretty good.

Mods I can’t tell you, but I can give you the greatest piece of advice I heard for that game- when you’re doing the dancing mini game, mash the button instead of trying to time it properly. As long as you picked the right one you’ll get the perfect timing bonus twirl thing. Makes getting sweet loot and marrying governor’s daughters way, way easier than trying to time everything perfectly.

Also, sloops rule as a combat vessel, if you’re halfway competent at dueling you can take pretty much anything with them.

So I can't view the page itself because I've been getting error 500 from various random pages from a few days before the sale even started, but this link should take you to a bundle of a lot of good cheap puzzle games that should mostly be under $1. They tend to be short games you'd finish in 1 or 2 sessions but they're very pleasing to play imo.

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/2723/Relaxing_Puzzle_Box/?snr=1_5_9__403

The Quell games are pretty good puzzle games too and 3 of them are only 51 cents each, though if you look them up, know that there's another quell game called quell 4D or something that is an entirely unrelated game by an entirely unrelated developer.

https://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Fallen%20Tree%20Games%20Ltd

Lastly, gotta give some representation for my boy Obulis. Only 99 cents and it's a lovely marble physics puzzle game and everybody who enjoys cheap and chill puzzle games should play this.

Another absolutely major tip for Sid Meier's Pirates! is that it is entirely possible for multiple landmarks with the same name to spawn. This was very annoying because one time I spent for-loving-ever searching the land for some hidden treasure because the map said it was near a particular landmark and when I finally said gently caress it and gave up, I sailed along the coast and found the exact same landmark like 1 screen away from the other one. So if you find you're having trouble with a landmark, feel free to go exploring and come back to it later because god drat is it frustrating as hell to be wandering around land for an hour at the wrong landmark.

Fast attacks are definitely superior, yeah. The combat is a very simple affair and the ability to interrupt an enemy's attack by just hitting them faster first as soon as they start to swing is surprisingly powerful.

I'm reading a random guide which had this to say about it:

quote:

Now for the hard part, reading the map. The problem is that the maps are only slightly useful. They consist of a few inked in landmarks and some red text referencing the relative location of a town. Ignore any references to landmarks. They may or may not have any impact on your search at all. Instead, look at the red text that says something like "Northeast of Gibralter" or whatever.

That text is your compass. Based on what it says, imagine a straight line that extends between one and three 'screens' of ocean. The treasure is somewhere within that line. Ignore landmarks as you sail along the coast in that approximate line of sight, checking each shallow bay or line of pale-colored sand. You'll find the treasure in no time.

Of course, there's the other option: study the map carefully, trying to make out landmarks and then search to their side. This may or may not work. Sometimes you'll find treasure right on top of a landmark. Sometimes it won't even be close. That's why I say you should just follow my trick. Trust me on this. I spent hours trying to find a treasure by consulting landmarks. This happened several times. As soon as I used my 'straight line' trick, it never took me more than 2 or 3 minutes to find a treasure again. The same is true of missing relatives and hidden cities.

Cardiovorax posted:

I'm not above cheesing things within the limits of the game, so I'm going to try to do this over and over.

e: my game plan right now is 1. just buy food 2. start hunting for weaker ships to board and loot and 3. return to port, sell loot and ships
