It’s not. It’s literally how my son thinks.

I've changed my mind. Please remove my quote on why i feel he posted the way he did. I have a new theory.

If you're not autistic yourself you shouldn't be saying stuff like that. Just because your son acts that way doesn't mean it isn't insulting to generalize autistic people like that.

Doesn't make sense that only we autistic people can talk about autism or what that experience is like, especially since it directly affects other people who are for the most part very patient with our limitations.

I didn't mean to step on any toes, and I don't really know everyone's personal experiences front to back, but some people are sensitive to what could be perceived as a cheap shot.

That said, I think sharing your experiences - either directly or indirectly - is pretty valuable, so please do, if you're so inclined.

Saying that someone who won't eat pussy is autistic is, in fact, a cheap shot. Like if he just wouldn't eat vegetables that's one thing but when someone is being mocked in this thread for something like not going down on people and the response is "oh he's autistic" yeah people are gonna take that badly.

I remember goon city, that was neat. There was a fairly respectful Rick Astley bit too.

Didn't SA have something to do with TVtropes nearly being kicked off Google for its massive amounts of child porn? I saw some stupid picture of a guy with a lampshade on his head and that jogged a bunch of memories of Fast Eddy and his site.

I think the TVTropes one was goons discovering the Troper Tales section, which was full of stdh.txt posts from the site's users about all the times they got molested/molested someone and how it was just like their favourite TV show/movie/hentai/snuff film.

Oh yea Troper tales thread was great, because it was full of stories like "the bully came at me with a yard stick but my quick reflexes from playing Sonic The Hedgehog enabled me to move my head at the last moment so he missed. A companion in the crowd thew another yard stick to me and I began my counter attack in ernest".

Yea that happened. I also remember from the TVTopes threads was the people who wrote a million words on how the magic system worked or how their totally not Hogwarts Magic school was organized but never actually wrote their story. Do they not know how writing actually works?

My favorite description ever of TV tropes came from this forum. I'll try and do it justice.

Normal human beings are capable of taking a whole work and understanding the idea in context and appreciate it as such. That same person would go through the process of baking a cake by combing the various ingredients of milk, flour, egg, sugar, etc to make a cake and present the whole cake as is for the enjoyment of a group.

A tv troper would make a cake by laying out each individual ingredient, explaining its purpose and use exhaustively along with other ways its used, and then step back and smile expecting the group to respond the same way as they would to a cake. Other tv tropers would crowd around and apllaud over what a great cake was made.

There were a lot of people on TVTropes who were experts on every part of the creative process except actually creating. My favorites were the ones who would add their own thing to various trope pages as examples, and then if you looked further, you'd find that the "work" in question existed as elaborate character bibles and timelines but no story, every fuckin' time.

My other favorite TVTropes story is the guy who wrote about how the main character of his story was in the big fight versus the boss and the MC didn't have enough healing potions to win/survive, and presented this as an objective fact that he was helpless to change, despite several people yelling YOU'RE THE AUTHOR JUST REWRITE IT. In retrospect, it was very much LitRPG, except with the author as a player.

A lot of them would end up creating entry pages for their unwritten head stuff, usually in fuckin' exhaustive detail with references to seasons and episodes, occasionally getting into "edit wars" with themselves to add nuance or explain continuity errors in something that didn't loving exist.

e: Because they tend to rip off other pages a lot, a lot of series talk about noteworthy features of a given work using a sentence starting with "______ is notable for ______" and seeing that on nonexistent works is always a little giggle.

a goon known only to god posted:

You have to remember that tropers essentially engage in cargo cult literature, where they can recognise the components of a story, but not how they interlock and work. Which is why you see story descriptions that have the names of tropes liberally peppered through them as if a story is nothing but a collection of clichés put together into a cohesive mass of horribleness.

By way of analogy: A troper will spend years learning about what kind of ingredients typically go into cakes, and compile an exhaustive list of every ingredient and what they taste like on their own. Then the troper will present all of the other tropers with a bowl full of whole unshelled eggs, raw flour, oil, milk, and sugar, all in unstirred heaps, and say 'look at my cake'! And everyone will agree that the cake is delicious because it has eggs, flour, oil, milk, and sugar in it.

And there's an unopened packet of instant icing on top, and the icing is rape.

tv tropes fails the primary test of good criticism which is to focus on how something is about what it's about, not just what it's about. otherwise star wars and ice pirates are the same movie.

Exploration is ill-advised.
They've cleared out a lot of that stuff in recent years but still has plenty of problems.

Though a TVtropes page still tends to be a more coherent way to read about something than a Wikipedia plot summary, which seems to go the other direction to the point of being completely incoherent.
