Come on, buddy. Parris Island takes 13 weeks, and you don't need nearly that quality to hit corners.

Take 100 youths. Perform health and mental aptitude checks, drop the those too fat, blind, deaf, or stupid.

Take the 80 that remain. Start classroom instruction, start mixing in some pugil activity to foster aggression, drop those that can't be instructed and arn't aggressive enough.

Take the 40 that remain. Start firearms training, sandbox and killtown exercises, and comm standards.

Finish with 30 killer cubs. Put 25 on the streets, retain 5 as instructors, start the process again. Periodically perform refresher courses.

The whole cycle can be managed in a month, and the end product obviously won't all be Rambo motherfuckers, but you'll have consistency and quality sufficient to handle street actions.

Edit: Take with a grain of salt. I'm making assumptions based on the general quality of anticipated OPFOR. A specialist (USASF Green Beret types) would probably be able to pin it down better

This is what I got too from Chris, not even like he was some hypercompetent special forces guy, but one of the money people with criminal records who enlisted during the height of the GWOT when they were waiving a lot of the background stuff to get boots on the ground. I remember hearing news reports handwringing about these guys coming back and teaching MILITARY TACTICS to like MS-13/Crips/Bloods etc.

I just found some really old questions I had written down to post and never did.

1. When Omar robbed Marlo at the poker game, why wouldn't he have just shot Marlo as soon as Marlo promised revenge, while on his way out with all the money? Could have saved himself a lot of trouble later, although I'm guessing there's a good reason.

2. When the police led by Marimow went around raiding all the suspected stashhouses and came up empty, why wasn't Old Face Andre's convenience store on the list? Didn't Greggs document it as a stash house? She certainly thought it was one. Wasn't it still a major distribution point?

3. When the other prisoner made an attempt on Omar in the prison cafeteria, it seemed like they were already somehow in line ahead of Omar and picked a fight with someone else who was also ahead of Omar as a cover for the attack. How could the attacker have known Omar was going to get in line right behind him? lol

1) I could be forgetting, but if I'm not mistaken Omar didn't know that was Marlo at the card game. All Joe told Omar was it was a valuable card game worth robbing. Even if Omar did know it was Marlo, he didn't have any reason to execute him at the time and doing that wouldn't be Omar's way. Omar only gets that way when given a reason and Marlo hadn't yet given one at that point.

2) I don't remember Kima doing that. I do remember Bunk identifying it as a drug house when he was trying to verify Andre's story about Omar but he did it in an off handed comment kind of way and I never got the impression he officially reported it.

3) Butchie's friends that got sent into prison to help Omar may have set it up that way. My guess is they let it be known Omar was about to come out and join the line, and then made sure Omar got into position but with the proper protection to defend himself.

regarding number 3, you don't stop being a soldier when you get locked up. I'm assuming the bounty was out, and it was all hands on deck with everyone ready to shiv at a moment's notice. if it wasn't the guy in the lunch line it woulda been someone in the showers or the library or whatever.

For the last one, it was an open bounty so I assume the guy who jumped Omar was just the first guy who got the chance, and everybody immediately saw how that went for him and that Omar wasn't going to be an easy target.

The Los Zeta's yes did start after a bunch of Mexican Commando's decided they could make more money as muscle for the Gulf Cartel, then realized the could make even more money running their own cartel. I think by now all of the original commando's are dead or in prison and the Zeta's are not as big as they used to be. Still a big cartel, but I don't think they are the biggest in Mexico currently, but I am not a super close observer of the situation.

He's so petty that he followed it with a gloating message that he blocked me, and then 20 minutes later he was still thinking about it so much that he came back to ALSO scrub me from his "followed by" list. I know because for a while there I still had him followed.

And I guess it's sealioning now if anyone wants to have a conversation at all after someone publicly declares for a presidential candidate, on open discussion forum in a thread they started. Especially if how they did it is wildly inconsistent and off-tone for them, in a way that their fans will have loads of questions about.

I mean there's also a theme of every who tries to break away from/radically change the system getting hosed even worse than the people who work within it, by the people who work within it - the co-op, Hamsterdam, Randy, McNulty in general, etc.

I love the Wire, but it never presents answers, just a hopeless situation. I don't feel the show every made the point that 'We must abolish the system and start again', rather the point 'The system is the system, and if you don't play by the rules, those invested in maintaining the system will grind you into dust to maintain the status quo'

fwiw from the book of `the corner` I get the impression he believes that meaningful, lasting change can only really come when people care about each other on a personal level (hence bunny, for naymond, and steve earle/kima with bubbles). There is also a recurring theme in old liberal people that I have noticed where basically they are too broke brained by years of failure and Capitalism to even imagine that there can be a better way, and they assume any far left or idealistic candidate is going to lose. Nobody is more emblematic of that than Chris Matthews, but I wouldn't be surprised if David Simon is another one of those who wants change but believes it can only come from what he perceives to be the more realistic candidate.

For some reason a lot of older liberals just can't accept the idea that major change is possible or a good idea. They've been told for years that it has to be incremental and there has to be compromise to get anything done and that concept is drilled into their heads.
