Local theater is where stage shows make their names but the commodified Broadway spectacle makes theater into bougie bullshit.

IIRC part of the thesis was Bay being seemingly so No Homo he overflows ending up promoting homosexuality via normalisation. I am leaning he doesn't give a gently caress either way like everything else. They act like a married couple throughout both movies, not brothers in arms. Their relationships with women are a side note.

While played as a joke to the audience, the shoppers except one support or see it as no big deal. A by product of Bay not giving a gently caress. If you view them as actually gay the movies get funnier/better.

Honestly,

I think it's great, not specifically for Hamilton, I don't care about Hamilton, but recorded performances of stage shows are so rare that I welcome them as much as possible. If there's a play or musical I want to see, I have to hope that some company in my city will perform it and do a good job. If you wanted to see the original Hamilton production (the one with a backlog of ticket buys, and massive cultural impact) then you had to somehow acquire the tickets and fly to New York for a night just to see it. Now that there's a recording of the original run, anyone in the future can see what people were raving about all these years.

Yeah I got to see Company with NPH at a Cinema that way, it was great. It's so cheap to do and makes theatre accessible to the masses, they should do it a lot more! People will still buy the expensive live tickets!!!

yeah hamilton sucks so bad and I cant even articulate how lame it truly is because i even feel like a contrarian dope just typing that

but the lyrics are sooooo loving weak everything hits on the most simplistic one syllable words, its infuriating to listen to. But i've only ever heard it so I thought you had to be there to appreciate the spectacle maybe

The Hercules Mulligan bit is basically the only good rapping in Hamilton. Like, there’s a few bars that are decades ahead of everything else around it. It’s like that Key & Peele East/West Bowl Rap Showdown sketch. https://youtu.be/gsRrEx0Cntg

You guys making GBS threads on Hamilton have no idea what an actually awful broadway musical is like. On the nose lyrics explaining what people are thinking or doing are par for the course. The Groundhog Day musical had a ballad by the woman Phil fucks in the first part of the movie about how people only use for her looks, so she feels bad that she's just played the pretty girl role her whole life (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ilLle_xXR0). Most of the other songs from that one aren't much better. You can pick any song from the Spiderman or American Psycho musicals and they're all terrible.

Bad Boys for Life was...actually pretty fun? Like I was expecting it to be inferior to the first 2 but it somehow managed to be as entertaining as them. Turns out this one didn't need Michael Bay directing to make it crazy after all.

It was directed by "Adil & Bilall" and I guess this is their US theatrical debut. I wouldn't mind seeing more from them.

There's also the Rosebud in Wauwautosa which is like an Alamo Drafthouse type of place.

I tried to watch a bit of that on like three separate occasions yesterday and had to stop like 5 seconds in all times. It's awful and embarassing.

That said and speaking of musicals, I thought Book of Mormon was actually really good. I saw the Norwegian version last year when that was still on (and because that's not Broadway, it did not cost $500, more like $35 IIRC) and have also listened to the songs from the English version.

I guess it helps when you have people making this poo poo who actually are good at writing songs.

It's an easy sell to normal people. My parents don't give a poo poo about theater and they love Hamilton because it makes them feel like they understand rap and that Lin Manuel Miranda fellow is so handsome and articulate.
