I just had the most wholesome experience with a player from the ACNH subreddit who came to collect Vivian before she went to the Void.

I advertised Vivian about an hour ago on the subreddit’s Discord as free-to-take, and this person messaged me frantically offering money and gold nuggets and NMTs for her. She was basically panicking in text form, furiously writing in caps lock, spelling mistakes included, so I reassured her that she was the first person to contact me about taking Vivian off my hands. This woman was practically crying; she came over, dressed as Vivian, dropped 15,000 Bells and 2 gold nuggets at my feet and ran the gently caress over to Vivian’s house to adopt her, but not before sending me fan art on Discord that she had done of Vivian.

This was such a super wholesome evening and I’m gonna lay down and cry now due to overwhelming cuteness.

I think the ability to summon villagers you want via amiibo was fine in New Leaf as the game was ancient by the time that update hit- but I don't want it in New Horizons. Kinda takes a lot of fun out your neighbors if you can just choose who's in and then never let them leave. Boo to that.

Still feels weird to say this but I hope there's a main street still or something you can build or fund. I know some shopkeeps are still around but I don't want a shoe store I can't move just plonked randomly around like the cafe in New Leaf.

Also I wonder if you can fall down the stairs if you trip that ones also really important.

I have a friend who has a good collection of the amiibo cards. I'd never use them to invite old friends over. I want to see where life takes me and make new friends.

It might be a bit more balanced/okay if the ability to invite amiibo card animals is gated behind unlocking Harvey or something and that takes a while so you can invite old friends into a developed island, but you gotta play through from the start with the animals Fate introduces to you.

There was so much weird poo poo in that game. Ghosts who only came out late at night. Weird, antagonistic animals. Tortimer leaving on vacation and making you turn the lighthouse on every day while he was gone. The island you could only get to with a GameBoy Advance and Link Cable.

Bonezone is the name of every co-owned couple town I've had in A/C. Including one that now has two exes in the same town, one who was in the middle of raiding the older one but didn't have space in house for most of it, so my town became littered with furniture leaves.

I will be shocked (and angry) if this game doesn't support vouchers, as I've been holding out too. To my knowledge, there hasn't been a single first-party release that wasn't supported since the vouchers came out. They're probably just waiting to drop the preorder with a Direct or press release.

I've never bought a "special edition" of a console that I already own, but I pre ordered the Animal Crossing switch as soon as it was announced.

I do wish we knew more about how shops are going to work. I like crafting, but I also like how easy it was to make obscene amounts of money by catching rare bugs, stopping by the shops every day to see what's new, etc.

Maybe, but it will be a lot of fun before it does fall out of your schedule. I am hoping that with this title in the series Nintendo will continue to regularly update it for a few years, at least to give us new things to do.

New Leaf taught me a valuable lesson- never delete my built up town. I got into the game in early 2015 when the New 3DS came out and played it ton until Halloween 2015. After that I put it away and didn't touch it much. In summer 2016 i got the idea i'd have fun re-doing my town so i erased the old one and started a new.

Well, pretty quickly I realized I didn't have the patience to do the work of actually making a new town so instead i wound up just putting it away and never coming back. I SOOOOO wish my old town was still there just so i could get my fix every now and then or check out the events as they happen throughout the year...but nope, I was dumb.

In New Horizons when the inevitable burnout happens, I'm going to keep my town. I know now that it will be fun to check-in from time to time.

I still can't believe the new game is about to come out. One of the reasons I decided that I'd not actually spend time to play a new town back in 2016 was that I figured surely a Switch (I think back then it was still code NX?) AC game would be out in the near future, so best to go in as fresh as I could. Didn't think it would be 2020 before a new release would happen!

Anyways, yeah, not gonna delete my town again.

Wait, I never really looked closely at this video until now, but look at this god drat island map:

I was worried after the demonstration map that things were going to have to be kind of basic, but that's a super exciting layout! I want that!

Original map for comparison:

So with a sample size of two, some things I suspected have been semi-confirmed. For whatever reason you start out without access to cliffs. The airport/Nook area is between two branching rivers. That means you need to craft a vaulting pole to actually go up and touch a cliff.

Why is that important? Pine trees have only been shown growing on top of cliffs. All of the trees on the lower level have been leafy trees.

So we've basically confirmed that there's an exploration aspect that's tied in with crafting and stuff. You craft stuff to get to new areas, and those areas have materials that let you craft other things. Presumably there's a way to scale cliffs, but even if it's easy to do/craft, you need a vaulting pole to even get to the cliffs.

This is, as everything about this game, exciting and worrying at the same time. I love the idea of expanding my area of influence on the island. Discovering rugged new untamed areas and expanding my central development out into those areas over time, eventually putting in bridges and stairs to connect it all together. That sounds delightful. However I do not like the idea of being constrained between two rivers and a beach to start with. I want to build my first tent on more exciting terrain! As long as your tent isn't the place you have to build your house, this will eventually be fine, but it is a trade off.

I was worried that the airport being between branching rivers would mean island layouts would be boring and samey, but this picture has put all that to rest. Gonna have some lovely unconventional islands. I wonder if you can have it so one of the rivers flows out east or west, giving you a corner bit to start with... I'd like that.

I was considering starting my New Leaf town over just to dick around a bit as well and ultimately I'm glad I didn't. Erasing my perfect and beautiful town definitely would have bummed me out a bit with zero real benefit, and just checking in from time to time is good enough.

It'd sure be nice if we had the opinion to have separate towns under different system profiles or something... but maybe that'd be unhealthy because I'd end up running 10 different towns like a maniac.

As far as the game itself goes, Target is still sold out due to the preorder bonus.
