Wattam is a fantastic game for young kids or drug users. Also good for anyone playing with them. Once or twice a year I remember this game exists and find out that it's not out. This time I found out that not only did it come out on the Epic store (ugh), but I got $10 off bringing the total to $10. Well worth it.

miniLAW: Ministry of Law

The Judge Dredd/Robocop game we never got. It's a 2D action title where you patrol a future dystopian city as a "cyber-constable"and use your firearms, fists, and negotiating skills to arrest perps and stop crimes in the hopes of preventing the destruction of the last city on Earth.

There is a level of tactics to the game that I like and you're given a surprising amount of options for this 2D action game. You can grapple, hide behind cover, blind fire, talk enemies into surrendering, do non-lethal takedowns. There's a surprising depth to this little game. It wears it's love of Judge Dredd on it's sleeve, including it's satire of highly questionable form of law enforcement.

There is permadeath as you only are given one life in the game. But there are difficulty settings, upgrades, and the ability to defibrillate yourself if you fall in combat.

It just came out of early access on New Year's Day and I've been playing it a lot.

There's currently a Steam sale!

Yes grandpa, slaps means good.

It takes a little bit for it to get on its feet and start running but once it takes off it really does. Story mode took me about 5 hours, but I'll be doing the dubgeon-rush challenge modes for a good while.

e. I got this game to check that the windows build worked on someone else's computer, I'm a couple levels in so far and I'm really digging the mechanics. It works in real time but you only interact via typing console commands and watching another person try to sneak around. Still only getting basic tutorial stuff but I can see where these systems could all combine to make some cool levels that require you to really think about what tools are available.

two very good games came out recently I like to recommend:

Lightmatter which is a puzzle game in the like of Portal/ narrated by the voice from Hitman Agent 47. I'd say the dialogue isn't as punchy as in The Stanley Parable or Portal for that matter in terms of humor, but it gets very close. The puzzles are rather easy for a larger part in the beginning but can get really tricky later on. The basic idea is pretty simple: you can't go through shadows and have to light a path. They remind a bit of Talos Principle beam puzzles due to havin a few light emitting pieces you have to carry arround and arrange most of the time.

The play-before-buy concept the game follows is also nice, you can play the first hour for free (not quite sure how this works, if it's like shareware with a timer or more a "fixed" hour it approx. would take you to reach a certain point) - due to the nature of the game it should be enough to get an idea for a buying descision.

The other game is also a puzzle game which has been announced years ago I think and I completely forgot about it until the wishlist release email came the other day: The Pedestrian. A neat 2.5D puzzle game where you control a 2D stickman through a maze of signs by rearranging them:

I'm not that far yet but it's a relaxing puzzle with nice design.

KillHour
Oct 28, 2007

Played through Lightmatter and it's good, but the puzzles never get very hard and it feels like there was a lot more they could have done with the mechanics. Also, the Portal references are cringe worthy.

I was very excited about this until I saw "procedural generation" in the description. Just how procedurally generated is this game? I usually don't like it because I think it leads to extremely generic worlds.

Literally everything that's the whole point of the game.

Entire overworld, most of the dungeon layouts and even the order you get items and fight most of the bosses.

Wolcen Lords of Mayhem has been in early release for over 2 years, but the content has been fairly limited. It goes to full release tomorrow with (based on the release patch notes) a ton more content and lots of major changes.

Bought into the early access over two years ago, only played for a few hours, but looking forward to the full release tomorrow based on several videos on YT from people that have gotten access a few days early, as the reports are extremely good so far.

Do you want a card game with super weird card art that looks like a smash-up of Lovecraft and a Sport Illustrated swimsuit issue? Do you like a game with maybe 20 players online at a time? Then do I have a game for you!

Joking aside, this has actually been pretty cool. It's a card game in the vein of magic and hearthstone, but no packs or microtransactions, and it has two-headed giant games! Warning! This game is still in early access and so everything is pretty rough. However, the developer is new and they are working on things daily, and I have to say I've enjoyed the strategy and I'm looking forward to what they do next. The lack of microtransactions is pretty refreshing.

As for the gameplay, there's multiple lanes and forced blocking of attacks, along with two different mana streams for spells and creatures. You have an avatar that you can level in game for activating certain cards or gaining abilities. Check out the tutorial video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEAvwwXACf8

In terms of unlocking new cards, as you play you gain experience which correlates to unlocks you can spend on various tribes' card sets or a neutral set. I've been considering doing a full post on this game with better descriptions of everything, but since this thread exists I figured I would post here first. Come spend :tenbux: and unlock a really cool game plus you'll add more players to the pool. And there's gratuitous spider-related smut! I know you're interested now!

Hey, I'm the publisher of this game so this is a shameless plug and I'll replace this with a godzilla gif if this isn't cool, mods.

We launched Necronator: Dead Wrong into Early Access today.

If you're old enough to remember the days of Flash games on Newgrounds and Kongregate, there was an amazing Indonesian studio called Toge Productions that made stuff that was head and shoulders better than just about any other Flash game makers. When I started Modern Wolf last year they were the first dudes I called up. And what they pitched me was Necronator: Dead Wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ENPYp9h8SM

It's a little bit of an inverted tower defense but it also features deck-building ala Slay the Spire and Dream Quest. It's really funny, too; we got one of the dudes from Fallen London to help with the script. You're a newly-graduated necromancer on a quest to conquer the living world with your army of the undead. And your guide in this quest is an ancient demi-god called the Necronator (he happens to be trapped in the form of a fat purple bat at the moment).

Because the cards and upgrades and relics etc are randomised, you can play lots of runs and have a different experience every time. There's a bit of a progression system in there already to unlock more decks, in a couple of months this will be much more fleshed out.

It's Early Access so it has maybe 20% of our planned content in there. We've got a regular drumbeat of content updates coming for it. One major content drop every month until the end of the summer, plus smaller updates more frequently; we already pushed an update on day 1 today fixing bugs and making balance tweaks based on the streamers and YouTubers who were playing advance copies.

Here's ManyATrueNerd playing it if you want to see a let's play:

Yeah the game was pretty fun, but that reinforcement timer absolutely is not. Looking around it's not just us two that have an issue with that mechanic, so maybe look into alternatives, because at it's core the idea of a tug-of-war-style slay the spire clone is neat.

Yup, that mechanic is not long for the world. We have had a day/night cycle on the drawing board for a while but it just didn't make it in time for early access.

The basic gist is that battles will (usually) begin at night, where your undead units will be stronger. But eventually the sun will come up, which will debuff your units. It won't be impossible to win, just harder. And there will be specialist units/support cards/spells that will play better at night and other units that are super powerful at night but suffer more during the day. So for example you might build a glass cannon deck that is super strong at night but you *must* win before sunrise or you'll be toast. Or you might build a turtle/tank deck that isn't quite as attack-y but suffers less after sunrise.

All that is subject to change as we're still experimenting but hopefully you see that we have big plans for this game in Early Access and are serious about expanding it based on player feedback.

Feels like most of the options you pick result in something bad happening but the game is called World of Horror so it's consistent. Do you like tower defense games? Do you like resource management games like Factorio? Do you like making overly elaborate setups in order to harvest endless resources? Do you like buying a game for less than 6 bucks? If so, You're probably going to like this game. There's little to no story involved except that you are in charge of rebuilding in the wake of a hostile alien takeover. Or something. The game isn't too clear on this and it seems to be in a form of early release still, so even though the campaign is bit barebones the fundamentals are solid. I've managed to sink over 100 hours into the game in the last few weeks

Some issues:
- The tutorial is hot loving garbage and you will probably need to experiment in order to figure out how to use certain blocks properly (junctions, routers, fluids, et cetera)
- There are still a few minor bugs, but the devs seem to be decently involved in fixing them in short order
- Not much to do yet in the single player campaign, but there are a ton of player-made maps in the workshop and there is PVP available
