No, it wasn't. There were some amusing bits, but in terms of screen time vs. good jokes, it's one of the worst running bits they have ever done.

YMMV I guess, but the general consensus seems to be pretty positive about those episodes. Personally I thought it was their best run of episodes in a while. The season only stopped being good when they switched to something else.

The best joke was the montage to legalize cocaine.

Outside of that joke, the rest of the episode felt a bit flat to me.

I'd rather have boring episodes, over the Macho Man one.

I also hated Teggridy but honestly because this was the worst version of Randy we’ve ever had.

I don’t really subscribe to the theory normally but this very much felt like the Randy version of “Jerkass Homer”.

Like I like Randy a lot and think he’s the best character, because he’s super selfish and also super sensitive about his needs, to express himself and to be happy.

But Teggridy farms Randy is just a malicious sociopath and felt more like a mouthpiece than like the character Randy Marsh to me.

Randy struggling with alcoholism or cultural appropriation Halloween costumes or not being able to jack off to his preferred pornography or his cooking show obsession or writing musicals to get a 40 minute blowjob... these are classic Randy Marsh adventures that endear you to the character (uh, sort of) but I didn’t get any of that from Teggridy Farms Randy.

Tegridy was the epitome of overusing a popular character. Randy was great in quick doses but devoting entire episodes to him ran old quick, and even Matt and Trey knew that with their fourth wall breaking towards the end of it.

Nah, the alcoholism episodes and the world record crap episode are all loving super good. Too much Randy isn’t the problem, Randy being both the good guy and the bad guy in all his plots is the problem

Yep. In addition, Matt and Trey's reluctance to actually go after everyone (*cough*libertarians) as well as how badly some of their satire has aged is one thing, but they double down no matter what even today, instead of actually producing something for the current era. They've done a couple of decent revisionist stances like disowning Manbearpig, made token potshots at the man like when they skewered China and ICE, and made the obligatory girl power episode, but way too much of it still feels backwards.

name one example besides the extremely tired manbearpig example or else this is just the same poo poo as the first point

they made up for the episode you (and everyone else) chastises. so by my count you're literally just upset that they don't seemingly "go after everyone" which really just means libertarians somehow.

it seems like most of these modern hot takes about how South Park is bad are just respinned versions of why people thought it was bad when it first came out. it's controversial rabblerabblerabble yeah no poo poo.

I'd like to think they would be able to skewer everything that's gone on since the last post was made in this thread in epic fashion next season, but I've already resigned myself to the fact that we're going to get a season of Randy and Towelie trying to use weed as a cure for Coronavirus and the Detective being used for some metaphor about the police when they already have an idiot policeman right there with Officer Barbrady.

I know there was one point where I figured they'll be contrarian and not do anything about the pandemic or any other events of 2020, but at this point that seems literally impossible. It's a different world. At the very least I'm expecting something along the lines of "Osama bin Laden Has Farty Pants"; they could even reuse the beginning where they're all wearing masks.

Or just open with a few seconds of Randy staring directly at the viewer, then he says "WHAT THE F--" and cut to credits, followed by Terrance and Philip

Well it's also an election season... although maybe they will steer clear of that since their last election season went off the rails...

But they seem to always like doing some election season nonsense...

Really though they seem to have gotten pretty lazy with coming up with things to do episodes on so there's probably going to be a pandemic episode... Not sure if they will bother with the riots, since they already made a play at it the last time with the drone episode.

Which episode saw the town turn on the police force only to come crawling back when the homeless overran their Whole Foods, at which point the cops taunted Randy and the locals on their 911 call? I could see that attitude of "WE HATE THE POLICE except when our interests are being affected" being revisited.

The kids pretend to be ninjas, everyone thinks they're ISIS, etc.

Edit: Yup, it's this one. It's on as I'm posting. The whole city just gathered in front of the police station to party and blaring "gently caress the Police." Next day, homeless all over the Wholefoods parking lot passed out.

It's the same episode that Officer Barbrady (sp?) shoots kids.

It's not a 911 call, they all go over to the station to apologize and the cops are getting ready to have a Hawaiian Lūʻau. "Who was it that said gently caress the police? Oh right, it was YOU guys."

Does anyone know which south park episode had this weird aside in the story where there's a couple where the woman is accusing the man of cheating I think and he says he wishes he could undo it or something along those lines, then it pans over to a grown man and his elderly father on a bench and a sad reconciliation, then it pans up to the sky? The whole thing is incredibly weird and I just thought about it randomly and really want to know just what the gently caress it's all about

There hasn't been anything official on when a new season will come out. Likely because of Covid, they spend a lot of time in close quarters with their staff making episodes in a week...

Might not be the worst thing if they ended up pushing the season back and not having to do election commentary this time... or perhaps line the new season up with the new Beavis & Butthead, but I don't know how long it will take Mike Judge to knock out a season of the show...
