I don't know if anyone watches the Hulu Into The Dark series but last night I watched My Valentine which I didn't like. Then I went and watched Pure because I never watched that one and I did like it.

Floating in the darkness of an endless limbo while your lifeforce is quite literally drained from you bit by bit until you're nothing more than an empty husk of a person.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter has a character watching porn by himself for a long stretch of the film. It also features two twins who don't seem to care which person they have sex with. It also has Crispin Glover dancing like this: It is the horniest film.

I said it before but I've never been more aggravated by a movie's sheer drop in quality than 31. Doomhead's opening monologue is in my top 10 horror openings of all time and then the movie spends so much time with the most obnoxious and lovely killers possible before realizing they have an outstanding actor in the cast they forgot about.

That opening montage is one of the greatest things ever, then most of the movie is trucks driving in a circle around a gas station, and then there's no ending.

I've said it before but my first impression from 31 is that they didn't even write a movie or anything. It felt like the film making equivalent of a "jam session album." Like Zombie had writer's block or something and decided to get his crew together and just gently caress around for and see what they came up with. So you get like little flashes of brilliance or what Zombie and his people do well but also the whole thing is just kind of a mess of sights and sounds. And to that extent I was almost kind of impressed that for as bad as the movie was it was still better than a ton of films that actually seemed to try.

I bring it up everytime 31 comes up, but watch slashers. A lower budget 31, that I thought was more entertaining. One of the gimmicks is that it's a live game show, and they force both the contestants and the killers to stand still during commercial breaks.

The thing is, I think you can pick up on that if you've seen all of Zombie's films and really "get" him. Then you can watch it and say "yeah, this sounds like a Zombie joint" even though its kind of a mess. But if you're not that familiar with him or in a position to like just take away amusement or appreciation that Zombie and his people are having a good time and being creative then its just kind of a terrible movie. So like... there's obviously people who would listen to Phish just gently caress around on their instruments and have a great time. But that's probably a niche.

I can see both sides of it, because I'm a huge Zombie fan and if I had my way he'd have unlimited funds and whatever time he needs to focus on making great films. So looking at it that way, 31 is really frustrating because it's clearly thrown together haphazardly and ends up being a major step back from Lords of Salem as a result. But at the same time I respect that Zombie is willing to just say gently caress it, we've got a few bucks and a week to shoot something, let's make a horror movie!

I can appreciate that its exactly what I wish I was doing with my life and what I'd do if I was ever a successful, rich filmmaker. So if nothing else Rob Zombie is living my best life.

What bugs me is like....Doomhead is so clearly heads and shoulders above everyone else in the cast and instead of doing the obvious move and focusing on him and letting his actor run wild we instead are stuck with an unfunny monkey cheese LOL NAZI MIDGET LOL WACKY killer and two killers formed from the stale leftovers from Zombie's other films.

Richard Brake does indeed rule and im glad hes sort of getting more recognition these days. his brief scene in Mandy is something else! also NoES 2 is probably the horniest horror movie, but also one of the most repressed

Speaking of actors getting recognition, the old guy in Baskin is so good and that was his first role.
