Season 5 got the "release half now and half later" treatment by Netflix, apparently to help with awards consideration or something. But it ended up being the worst miscalculation ever, because the really awkward interview where they made Jessica Walter cry (a few days after the season premiere I think) sucked all the air out of the promotional cycle. People still more or less tuned in for the first half, but it was absolute crickets for the second half. The thread on this forum still lies dormant.

It's been a few years since I last saw it, but to my memory there's a lot of gross-out and sex humor but nothign that stands out as something cringy or offensive. B&B are always the butt of the jokes, which goes a long way. It's dated in tone and references but in more of a 90s time capsule way than a tiresome way.

Totally agree. I never got the hype around Arrested Development. I've seen it a couple of times and enjoyed it, but never thought it was hilarious like people claimed. I can definitely appreciate how tightly-written it was with all the references and foreshadowing, but that doesn't mean I thought it was that funny.

There's definitely parts of it that were funny, but the whole thing was underwhelming and everything about Charlize Theron's character was even at the time.

Most of those shows are just absolute garbage in hindsight and the only reason we watched them was because we were like ten and ninja robot sharks fighting crime was 90s as gently caress and therefore cool, plus we could pester our parents into buying mountains of toys that got eaten by the dog/broken/"lost" within a week

The 90s was basically just an explosion of cartoons being allowed to have budgets again for the first time in like half a century, so you get shitloads of everything of every level of quality.

Might be nostalgia talking, but you'd be surprised at how some 90s cartoons have aged. Nickelodeon stuff may have been during the height of gross-out humour but it's often a lot smarter than it looks, and a lot of themes that go over kids' heads. Not even getting into Rocko's Modern Life being constant scathing indictments of capitalism.

A joke that I only got watching through the show last year was in episode 2 when they go to the O-Town Mall - right in the middle of O-Town National forest. Federally protected land, but the capitalists still managed to build a mall right in the middle of it. Says a lot about how weak the Feds are in that universe compared to Conglomo. Also an interesting thing in The Office, US version, when Michael Scott meets David Brent, David asks as they part if there is a job going at Dunder Mifflin. He still hasn't found work after being fired from his own place. BioEnchanted has a new favorite as of 09:51 on Feb 24, 2020 |

This is very true. I never really got to watch B&B when I was a kid (from UK, so it wasn't really on) but I've been watching it recently and it's really, really good. I was always under the impression it was dumb, simplistic gross out humour, but it's actually more that it's about dumb, simplistic gross out humour. It's also (generally) non-lovely about people. It's great.

Show got weird as poo poo and the second season did in fact have some weird-rear end cat necromancer dude. And a time travel episode where they have to somehow whip up jet engine fuel in the past using only the stuff they can put together back then to get the jet running again and get back through the time portal. Plus it basically treated the jet's missile bays the same way Green Arrow treats his quiver or Batman treats his utility belt.

B&B is still great. It really is the perfect satirized version of the lifestyles of 13-15 year olds prior to the internet becoming ubiquitous. You probably didn't play Frog Baseball, but you could relate to walking around the neighborhood with your friend and getting into some minor mischief.
