EPILOGUE: Lazy Nate quit not too long after all this happened and kept selling drugs while working at a car wash. The last I heard anything about him was in 2000 and I was told he was in a prison in Florida. I don't know what has happened with him since. Randy worked there a couple of more years and eventually died of lung cancer. If I had gone to his funeral I would have liked to ask if anyone knew how to get cancer out of lungs. Randy would have appreciated that. As for myself, I worked there for a few more months then moved on to another job. I would periodically go back to check on Willie. One day I found Willie in the woods where he roamed and he was not in good shape. He was barely moving and had lost a tremendous amount of weight. None of the other dogs were around so it looked like he was all alone. I scooped him up and took him to a vet where through a lot of tears I sat with him for a long time then finally said goodbye to Willie The Pimp as they euthanized him. They estimated him to be about 13 years old at that point so he did have a long life. I took him back to his domain and buried him there. I like to think he lived long enough just to save my life and I'll never forget the big guy. Before I left the job MelonHead sightings got less and less frequent and one day we were all met with a big surprise. MelonHead was female and had given birth to four kittens in her lair! One of the factory workers was very much a cat person so she took one, and I took another. The other two were adopted out by the local Humane Society. MelonHead's spirit lived on. I named the kitten I took Emmy and she was with me for 18 years until she succumbed to kidney failure. Here's a picture of her from 2015 about a year before she passed. Rest in peace Willie The Pimp and MelonHead. You were the best security guards ever.

MelonHead is a legend. Do you have any sense of how old she was when you worked there?

Not really. The facility had been in operation as the dog food factory for about 5 years before I started working there and a couple of the workers said MelonHead had been there from the beginning. She was so massive and wild looking it would be hard to guess her age.

How would you say Emmy compared in size to her mother? She looks like a big cat in that photo, but not over twenty pounds.

Loved this story. Out or curiosity, where in CA? Just curious, as I lived there a while and just wanted to set the scene in my head.

Weka posted:Are feral dogs common in America? Not really, although out here in New Mexico you'll get "res dogs" on the reservations which are, like, semi-feral.

Like porno shoots. Nate's Hole was in a blind spot so we didn't worry too much about his drug dealing being recorded. Anyone wanting to see a tape would have to go through Randy so our asses were pretty well covered. In my time there we never had anyone ask to see any footage.
