(ianal etc.) there are ways to obfuscate it to make it harder (which makes it much more expensive) and police probably dont have the resources to track down every little thing but isnt a perfectly anonymous mask like some treat it. if it was we wouldnt have wonderful stories of people like KnifeWrench posted:carla sophia who has many boyfriends

I assume there's software available that correlates inputs and outputs even through mixers. This kind of stuff really isn't hard to do.

CampingCarl posted:i would assume so. i think in theory with a large enough pool you could make it practically impossible but then you have to pay for each transaction through a mixer, each pass would take a minimum of 1 block and probably more, and it requires you to trust a 3rd party which is the mixer service itself. expensive, slow, and requires trust of 3rd parties...but with bitcoin! Also, using a mixer to hide your gambling between drug deals and CP does not seem smart.

this is not even to mention the fact that there's little reason to use a mixer unless you need to hide something illicit, so it's not even like traditional money laundering, because you're only gaining deniability about which criminal you are.

So my question is, can the recipient, B, see that the coins have come from A, easily? And if you send another payment later, will it appear to be from the same address? Or do wallets make new addresses for each transaction?

usually, recipient B creates a new unique unused address that they only give out to sender A, so the first transaction to that address will be assumed to come from A
