i'm not going to say that everyone involved in Jackass was a good person (wassup to Sean Penn and Bam's gross uncle) but Knoxville has always seemed like a good dude with a strange but entertaining sense of humor, and most of the guys seem to be pretty decent, although it seems like substance abuse was a pretty common thing in that circle

I remember one interview he was pretty explicit about how he was influenced by classic slapstick comedy and wanted to get back to that.

I definitely noticed the diffusion thing when I saw Freeway at the Drafthouse recently, mid-late 90s they were going for some stark contrasts. Blade is similar, a lot of harsh white light in that. (And also 12 Monkeys and so on and so on.) There was a Sony Digital thing before the movie but it felt like film.

(Knives Out’s cinematographer had a piece recently about how you can recreate the look of film on digital if that’s what you want to do, and the reason a lot of digital movies look similar is people don’t mess with the presets on the three types of sensors being commonly used- some interesting tech stuff.)

Dude was like holding up prop window slats to give the reflections in Jamie Lee Curtis' glasses some extra pop so thats above and beyond what people do.

Plus any extra work like that means the CGI crew can't just plop things down in The Digital Camera.

It has "prequel" versions of all the CineD Star Wars discussions: more ambitious, less inspiring and uplifting, started out light-hearted and adventurous but have gradually became darker and more cynical. People hate them now but when the sequel forum turns up in 2030 they'll be sorry.

It's a pretty accurate post too. The prequel thread over there is pretty fun because people are just aghast at arguments we've already seen about a thousand iterations of over here. Like, if I were to go into the Star Wars thread here and say "the prequels are about the rise of fascism!", I'd be expected to actually add something interesting to such an obvious statement but over there something like that sparks pages and pages of angry debate.

Time for a little robot chauvinism!

This is a second hand story from former coworkers, but one time when I was working at an arthouse theater, back in 2012, a guy came to the box office and asked if he could talk to the program manager. He said his name was Paul Anderson. They called up to the office, but everyone was in a meeting and they said to tell the guy if he wants to talk to them to call and schedule a meeting. So the guy shrugged and left.

A few minutes later the program manager came barreling down the stairs as he put the name together but it was too late and he missed him. Turns out it was Paul Thomas Anderson wanting to talk to them about screening The Master in 70mm. Apparently he went to the comic book store down the street after that. I don't know if they ever got to talk one on one with him, but we did end up showing The Master in 70.

It's more interesting because we've talked ourselves into thinking the separatists didn't want to separate and the guys setting up armies didn't want to use them at least twice.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.

I love that the interviewer was preparing for this to be this big "gotcha!" as if finding homosexuality acceptable is scary. The Jackass movies have had Rip Taylor and John Waters in them. Johnny Knoxville in particular has always been vocally supportive of gay people.

Because non-CineD goons will complain in perpetuity, forever, about how they want to discuss movies in a different atmosphere than CineD only to forget their new alternative exists after a month. So maybe making it an RSF was a great idea.

It was pretty funny how the QCS thread requesting the RSF was full of people complaining about how toxic and terrible CineD was and all of them had been run out of the forum for being various shades of awful.

:smugdog: Actually you'll find a rejection of the self embodied by the villain is a goal everyone should have been working towards. The so-called heroes are, in fact, holding progress back and the anti-socialist messaging was cloying. "Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

i'm taking a class in public health emergency preparedness right now and while it's very very timely for obvious reasons (especially because my teachers are actual public health emergency preparedness professionals with the county who are preparing for COVID-19 right now), studying for this test right now reminds me of exactly why I hate school so drat much. Look at this poo poo, all of this was just from 3 weeks of class:

quote:

National Preparedness System
Identify and assessing risk
Estimate capability requirements
Build and sustaining capabilities
Planing to deliver capabilities
Validate capabilities
Review and update

Five capabilities of the National Preparedness Goal
Prevent
Protect against
Mitigate
Respond To
Recover from

6 Steps in the Planning Process
Form a team
understand the situation
determine goals and objectives
plan development
plan preparation, review and approval
Plan implementation and maintenance

Preparedness Cycle
Plan - enables management of the life cycle of the crisis
Organize - provides human/technical resources needed to build capabilities
Train - provides knowledge/skills/abilities needed to perform tasks
Exercise - identify strengths and gaps in plans for improvements
Evaluate/Improve - develop improvement plans to address gaps identified in exercises/real-world examples

The five functions in the Emergency Operations Coordination capability
conduct preliminary assessment
activate response operations
Develop incident response strategy
manage and sustain response
demobilize

The worst part is that they're all similar enough that I could tell you the broad strokes of any of them (plan, organize, prepare, execute, review) but if I actually get all of these memorized it will be completely out of my head by the time the test is done. School is dumb, everyone should drop out.
