Yes, but even that didn't carry over your levels, items or skills. Not sure why anyone thinks this game will.

there were paragon/renegade options that were only gettable if you'd maxed those skills out in the previous game iirc

So what you're saying is...if I max both Aeris and Tifa's affection meter, in Part 2 I get to see BOTH of them kiss Cloud on the cheek in the gondola?

Yeah at the very least there's gonna be carryover in affection points for the gold saucer date because just lmao if you think they're gonna leave out all the date options after seeing how they're handling the honey bee inn

I wouldn't be surprised if they added options to date Red XIII, Cat Shee and Cid

It’s not impossible and its something they could and should do - I just don’t see them actually doing it is all - much more likely you’ll get some bonus items or something for having a complete save file than them wrestling with the nightmare that is balancing for a huge potential range of player levels.

All they have to do is give the first part of the game a lower level cap.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the remake just straight up asks you who you want to date because it's actually pretty hard in the original to get the Yuffie or Barret dates

I got Yuffie on my first playthrough but most people aren't gonna be active jerks to both Waifu AND Waifu #2

I personally think they'll remove player choices for the date entirely and just make you date Aerith for maximum sadness when she gets weeb'd to death

At the end of the date, Barret calls Cloud 'Stamp' not as an insult, but as a term of endearment.

Choosing to hang out with Yuffie in the remake better involve a casino heist to rob Dio of all his poo poo.

Eh, Strago's a bit of a wash since regular magic's so effective as it is, but if you count Rage, Gau's got some very effective options with relatively little investment. (You just have to know how the Veldt works and deal with a terribly unoptimized, low-information UX :v:)
Quina's set would be more useful if accuracy was better, spirit didn't nerf Mighty Guard so hard, and there were more enemy compositions with large numbers, but alas, proving your point there.
XI Blue Mage is in a pretty fine spot, if a bit of the Jack-of-all-Tradesy problem by endgame.

Has any game successfully done a 'transer save between games' excepting like the old, old RPGs that were designed around the idea?

As well as Mass Effect, for Dragon Age Inquisition they made 'Dragon Age Keep' that let you upload your saves based on your user profile and even better than that, it let you edit your past choices and make new ones to upload, so you could set up a "worst choices" playthrough without having to redo everything.

Then, of course, Anthem came out, and during the process they scrapped the in-progress Dragon Age game that the developers were feeling really positive about because they'd worked out the kinks and were going to focus on a smaller-scale branching plot, so the Dragon Age Keep ends up being used for only a single game.

I replayed the original a bit after playing the demo and I wonder how they’re going to do the dialogue Cloud has in his own head.

Also you get a flashback to Cloud’s mom really fast. Hopefully they expand on her a bit, maybe even give her a name.

The Trails games all do save import between chapter of individual sub-series. Sky 1 > 2 > 3 you got bonus items depending on your rating and your level carried over if it was within a certain range. If you were under the range you get bumped up in the next game, and if you were over you get cut down a little. You could also start each game fresh with the characters already at the appropriate level and no bonus items.

The Crossbell sub-series and Cold Steel sub-series do roughly the same, except for Cold Steel 3 since it was an entirely different console generation than Cold Steel 2 (this will likely be a non-issue going from PS4 to PS5, but PS3 to PS4 saves were not compatible AFAIK). It worked really well in all the games and gave good incentive to get a high ranking (sidequests and events). The games themselves are SNES/PS1 style RPGs, easily my favourite RPG series other than Yakuza. They do have a tonne of SNES/PS1 style hidden sidequests and events though, so unless you want to play a dozen times a guide is recommended.

Yeah like the Sky series is where my mind goes for "If I'm gonna have a game that's covering all this, I really want to carry over some." Like... I ain't asking for the level cap in the first one to be 50, the next one to be 100, and then finish of at gently caress it, 200, Disgaea Numbers. But I want... I want if I upgraded my materia a certain way, for that poo poo to carry on. I don't want to start game 2 and "Oh all those upgrades you did to your swords, yeah gently caress em."

EDIT: Same for the .Hack games, but they concluded at level 150. in the GU series.

Shaped like a friend

...Wait Aeris dies and not Tifa?

I guess that makes more sense all things considered. Huh.

E: FFX was my first game in the series and I remember loving it and going back to the others to play retroactively. As a young impatient teen though I didn't really 'get' 7's story and had trouble immersing myself in lego men. I also had a friend backseating me the entire time urging me to rush through the game as fast as possible to get Black Chocobos or Knights of the Round and other things. This combined led to me getting to the Crater but never actually beating the game as I was only level 30 or something low like that and not remembering a drat thing about the story so the Remake will be me well, relearning everything.

Things I do remember, just for fun.

*Midgar slums and Cloud doing minigames for a dress. I failed getting the best one
*Swamp Snake thing that you needed a chocobo for. Mainly because it scared me and I remember Sephiroth killed one
*Yuffie's menu hijinks
*There's a astronomy lab at some point or something. Guy floats around in it at some point
*Red is a dog thing
*There's a foggy forest you follow Aeries through and it's confusing. Also a ancient egyptian temple? I don't loving know man. I guess she dies but for some reason thought it was Tifa even though that doesn't make sense thinking about it more.
*Cloud gets to have fun in a wheelchair
*Robots are attacking the world or something, one hates Midgar. Don't even remember how its dealt with
*Cid in a rocket ship. I panic over a materia minigame and fail.
*Now I'm in a submarine trying to fight a super boss and dying in one hit. Same with red sandy boy
*I went through a forest and got Clouds best sword I think (Omega Weapon or Ultima or something, genuinely don't remember)
*I got to Sephiroths crater at 30-35 and Iron Giants were killing my entire party in one hit so I stopped playing the game.

That's all that rubbed off on me in the game so boy was I doing a double take when people in streams talked about how Jessie is going to get killed or whatever :v:
