2 person kayaks are never a good idea unless you're using the space for the second person as gear stowage.

Does the maxim for tandem bikes apply for two person kayaks? Whichever direction your relationship is currently going, it's going to get there faster?

lmao this is pretty funny. I mean, all our walmarts have a sanitize wipe station at the front door so you can wipe down your handle bars. They've had them for sometime now. It's one of the few things I think walmart atleast trys to do right. For costumers. They 100% don't give a poo poo about workers.

Tandem kayaks always lead to heartbreak. There is no good outcome there.

I tipped a kayak in the ocean on my first and only try and it sucks and kayaks are very uncomfortable for tall people I realized (even without dumping it)

Keep me on dry land, basically.

* Plenty of water.
* Plenty of rear end paper
* Workers were using sanitize wipes to wipe the cart handles as people walked in.
* No samples.
* Still lots of old people to reap.

Kayak chat: just get a canoe

Seriously. Unless you are planning to use it solo a lot, or take it on big water (in which case, don't get a Costco kayak), a canoe is better in every way.

AKZ
Nov 5, 2009

A single person kayak will get you in backwaters and shallows that wouldn't be possible with a canoe. If you're going to the boundary waters with a friend for a week a canoe is great, but in every other scenario a kayak is more fun.

Also with a kayak you can solo throw it on a roof rack for easy transport.

I don't see how you can even compare a kayak and canoe. Canoes are huge and almost require more than one person. Sure you could do it on your own but steering would be much difficult. I'm sure it'd be way more difficult to transport as well.

Get a kayak if you're looking for a single person thing. I have 2 types. A regular hard shell Pelican, which is still hard to move by myself. And I have an inflatable one. I got the Intex Challenger K1 Kayak which worked surprisingly well. I got it as an extra one for a guest. It breaks down to the size of a suitcase. And it looks like it's $68 right now lol.

This is the Pelican.

Getting that thing on the roof is very difficult. Try getting a canoe on there.

I bought a tandem kayak on craigslist about 4 years ago. My wife and I went out on it one time. It then sat in my backyard for the next 2 years until I sold it.

They're too heavy to use by yourself, and your partner is not going to paddle the way you want them to, they're going to hit your paddles with theirs, and they're going to splash water on you with their paddels.

I think you are confused, or you've been exposed to some really poo poo oversized Walmart canoes. Canoes are significantly easier to move around than a kayak.
There's not much weight difference, and a canoe sits nicely on your shoulders. I've done plenty of 2-3 mile technical hikes with a canoe on my back. Carrying a kayak you would probably want to saw your arm off by the half way point.
You also don't need a specialised rack to secure them to your vehicle.

I should clarify. If you want to paddle around for a couple of hours by yourself, a kayak is very much superior. It's more efficient to paddle, and easier to learn the basics on calm water.
Do you plan to do this as a couple? Bring a pet with you? Transport anything bulky? Fish? Be dry? Explore a route that includes portages? A canoe is better at all of these.

If I'm at a cottage and want to do a little tour of the lake, I will gladly take a kayak. ALSO THE OCEAN. For literally anything else I will take a canoe.

Canoes are almost always bigger than kayaks. That's the entire point of a kayak. Small and portable. Well unless you get those ocean ones which are designed long to track well. They have all different types for different situations. Calm water, rapids, ocean, lakes rivers, extra portable, inflatable, etc. And you can do all of that with a kayak as well besides bring a pet. Even though I've seen it before but I wouldn't recommend it. They even make kayaks specifically with fishing pole holders and other features. They have straps on them to transport gear. They have waterproof containers built into it. The only reason I can see a canoe being better is maybe hiking, which would still suck horribly, pets, or having another person.

A canoe is just a tub with a seat on it.

And you can strap and carry anything on a vehicle. Including a kayak.

I just think that's what he's looking for since he said he's looking for a kayak. :shrug:

No panic buying at my Michigan Costco. Plenty of toilet paper and water available. Zero reported cases here though.

We bought more food than we usually do though, mostly non-perishable stuff that we're buying extra of ~just in case~. It'll all get used sometime, at the worst we're just frontloading some expenses this year.
