It’s absolutely unnecessary, but I still enjoyed T2 Trainspotting quite a bit. If you liked the original and have nothing better to do for a couple hours, you might as well watch it.

T2 Trainspotting absolutely lives up to the original, exceeds it, and is a fuckin perfect return to and wrap up of those characters. It's really really fuckin good, for real.

Ok, I will definitely check it out when it pops up streaming somewhere.

It's also way, way loving better than the real unnecessary thing, which is The Knife Artist in which Begbie, for no coherent reason, becomes a famous sculpture artist in LA with a hot American wife and his favorite album is Chinese Democracy

I'm not making one word of that up

Ok, I googled this and came up with zero results so I feel like you are definitely making it up.

My bad, it's called The Blade Artist

And it's awful. And I'm saying that as someone who actually liked Welsh's previous unnecessary American sequel, Crime

Hell I even enjoyed The Sex Lives of Siamese Twins, as ridiculously trashy as it was

I know this isn't one that is on everybody's radar on the Streaming thread, but Survivor is currently on its 40th season, and on this season every single player has won at least once before.

So that's prompted me to go back and rewatch old seasons. Most seasons are on Hulu, although strangely some seasons are missing a couple of episodes randomly, like sometimes even the season premiere. I'm not sure if it's an error, or some strange rights issue.

But I'm having a blast. I've watched every season over the last 20 years, but at this point, after 40 seasons, I don't remember everything. So while I might recall the big moves and who the winners are, it's like I'm watching them for the first time again.

Probably already discussed upthread, but I just watched the first episode of Too Old To Die Young on Amazon Prime. I really, really dig Refn's aesthetic, even though it's kind of one-note. But goddamn do some of those scenes just draaaaaaggggg. Still gonna' finish it up though; I love gangster poo poo like that & Refn just wallows in it.

People always ask these two exact questions every time I talk about Survivor.

Yes, 2 seasons a year, and it still does very well. It has a very dedicated audience. I personally think the show is better than ever. It's more focused on gameplay strategy than basic survival, which was the focus of earlier seasons.

I think it might still just be paid rental but Ford vs Ferrari was a hell of a lot more fun / interesting to watch than I expected it to be.

Good race action scenes, good story etc. Nothing that will blow you away overall but it was entertaining and didn't feel long despite being a pretty long film.

I watched about 25 minutes of that first episode and couldn’t bear it. Then I looked ahead and realized the first episode was one of like 4 feature length episodes and I was out.

I imagine its probably unbearable if you're just sitting there watching it, but it works pretty well for something to put on while you do something else. I painted miniatures while watching it and could look up every so now and then and see whats going on, then paint during the 3 minutes of silence between each line.

Rush is more focused on the racing, Ford vs. Ferrari is more focused on the technical development side. They are both kind of the same vein of classic race car porn. I saw it in the best possible setting, in a theater with the volume turned up uncomfortably loud.

I think Russell both reinvigorated the show, but also forced the show into a rough patch for several seasons in the mid 20s. That was peak producer intervention, and peak casting of model/actors. Bringing Russell back 3 times in just 2 years was just too much. And then when they realized that people had had enough of him, they decided, "Well, the people loved one Hantz. Why not bring in his dim-witted nephew for a couple of seasons?"

I'm glad the show has recovered from the Russell era. But I can't help admit that he forced the level of strategy to a whole new level never seen before, and it hasn't really dropped since.

After watching Rush on HBO GO, I'd say the story is far more historically accurate. However, FvF redeems itself by devoting a full half hour to the big race.

1. Ooh, The Arrival!
2. I remember that to be a good movie
3. Wait, Charlie Sheen?

gently caress it, Season of the Witch is good. I love it. I can't help it, the middle school trash movie lover in me is just too strong, drat my pudgy little arms. Christopher Lee's makeup is especially of note, along with Nicholas Cage and Ron Perlman's high school Shakespeare English accents. Completely charming, like a list Evil Dead movie.

e Charlie Sheen is great in The Arrival, he should have been a scientist in real life. Good movie to pair with An Inconvenient Truth or Contact, the boring The Arrival.

Halfway into season 5 of The Shield. We're enjoying the development of the main story. The side-stories are eye-rolling. Baby cut from the womb, cord on the road, baby corpse in view a few times, graphic description how the body "cracked". So out of place and edgy that I completely disconnect unless the main story develops a bit.

The new Zodiac doc on Hulu, The Most Dangerous Animal of All, is a huge waste of time and the subject of the doc is a known fraud, which is revealed at the end of the doc. I’m glad I ended up passing out during the middle two eps instead of wasting time on the whole series. That and the new Amazing Johnathan doc (also on Hulu) are garbo.

The subject of the doc is Gary Stewart, an orphan who was tracking down his birth parents, found out his birth father was a legit monster (married Gary’s mom when she was only 14, had massive anger and obsession issues, etc). Gary then presents a ton of circumstantial evidence that led him to believe his father may have been the zodiac, and then starts embellishing and outright fabricating details and presented them to a book publisher who ran with it enough that they released a book in 2014 with their “findings.”

At the time of the book release in 2014, almost all of it was discredited immediately, recent FOIA requests also revealed that Stewart altered police reports before handing them over to his publisher to put his father and the zodiac killer in the same area during one of the murders. All in all, it’s a very fictitious theory with zero basis in fact, and Gary’s profited enough that he started trolling online message boards about how he got paid so he didn’t care if his theories were disproven. The last shot of the doc is him peeling out in a new bmw with his dead abusive father’s name as a vanity license plate.

It actually made me a little pissed off because the guy definitely got paid for the rights to this doc, which means he’s still profiting on his lies.
