They didn't close everything down early enough to stop it. They didn't test enough up front in order to track and quarantine.

Basically, they made all the mistakes that the US is making.

Probably tourism, particularly during the few months after the initial outbreak when the Chinese government was covering it up. The current numbers reflect increased testing but numbers were probably already high before the testing started.

It started there earlier? They had a super spreader or two? Who knows? The rest of Europe also didn't react fast enough. Singapore did. South Korea did pretty good after that death cult thing. The west has been asleep at the wheel.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Italy did over 14 times the swab tests the rest of EU did, but it also has one of the oldest populations in the world and a population density of 206 per squared km vs, say, 36 in the US.

No way that continues after today, right? It is pretty sad that basketball being canceled is the reality check a lot of people need on the situation, but now that it's in everyone's faces, awareness and sanitary practices should increase.

This thread has been great for keeping up on the latest news.

I have/had the roni. Got my official Yep, You A Plaguebearer talk from a doc on the phone today - drat near a month after my poo poo got hosed up. My little plague dot should be appearing in the UK tomorrow.

First symptom I noticed was fairly severe muscular and joint pain. Went to the gym, felt like someone had worked me over after s fairly light weight session. Woke up the next day, headache - mostly caused by fatigue and how stiff my neck was, super sore, feeling pretty damned cozy. Mild nose dribblin', light chesty cough. Over the next couple days got hotter and hotter and coughier and coughier and sorer, with my kidneys in particular hurting like an absolute motherfucker. Went to my bed on the Friday, woke up very confused on the Sunday, havingnhad a couple days of weird nightmare and the occasional "oh poo poo I'm drowning" panicky wake up. Fever sweats a bitch, tightness of chest a weird and unfamiliar feeling, absolutely gently caress that poo poo. Started to feel better, had a couple days of "aigt, just a cold, business resumes" and then BAM, back to fever and coughing and sissy bitch breaths. Repeat a few times, woo woo.

The roni seems to jam the door open for any old poo poo to come in and party with it, cause I also got some weird joint swelling, a bad batch of pinkeye and some kinda weird eczema looking poo poo that I am having good fun itching. Lower back feels stiff and achey, and getting weird electric shock feelings in my left leg when I cough - which is fun with a persistent cough. Assume this is a trapped nerve or some poo poo?

Eventually a friend called NHS 24 or whatever it's called now, went to see a veeeeeery well protected doc in a spacesuit who swabbed and took blood and scraped my throat. Few days later which I guess was today, got the Big Speech. Self isolate, warn every motherfucker you know, don't loving go anywhere. Had already self isolated, bored as poo poo, mostly flopping around coughing and being tired. Found out if I sit in a hot bath it eases the ol' chest. Have no idea whatcday/time suits happened on, since the days are merging and my sleeps an bit jacked. Got a buddy bringing me groceries. Feeling betterish now - less about to die, but still weak and fragile. Went for a walk (I live in a rural area, I wasn't gonna meet anyone to infect don't worry) and was aghast at the ding my staminas taken. Walked a mile, slept like some fucker had tranquilized me. Still feel warm, and the cough randomly comes back, but feeling better. Bless you Papa Nurgle.

Do your duty, hug a Tory.

They still didn't close everything down quickly enough. People kept traveling all over even after community transmission was obvious.

🐵❌💀

Italy has a lot of old people who spend all their time hanging out together in groups and touching each other, and when they were told they should stop, they didn't because telling a bunch of 80 year olds they have to stop engaging in their own culture simply won't happen.

Also, the rest of the EU hasn't been doing good enough, for the most part. The level of testing and containment needed is what is happening in South Korea.

No one "closed everything down quickly enough" in the west, and Italy is the only country that literally closed everything down as soon as it was the reasonable thing to do. So far only Japan and South Korea have been (it seems) successful in containing the virus.

12 reported cases in Mexico. Those 5 new ones were found out all today. All of them people who traveled to Spain, Italy and the USA. And it seems whole dance studio crew who were on a tour through Italy this week got thrown in quarantine as soon as they got out of their plane lol

It was funny reading the wikipedia saying 9 cases, a second later edited to 11, going to a newspaper's page clicking on the "11 CONFIRMED CASES!" link and seeing that they had quickly updated the headline to 12.

Ha. ha. Ha.

People joke but if you're honestly prone to anxiety/panic, asking your psychiatrist for crisis meds would not be a terrible idea. With shortness of breath being so ubiquitous with both, and panic having the lovely 'I am literally dying' certainty attached to it, being able to clearly and accurately report the status of your lungs w/o panic interference could free up a bed if it turns out to be a very understandable freakout.
