The NBA has suspended its season and the NHL is in the process of following suit. Since people in respective league threads are quoting stuff about other leagues, I figure a combined 'Roni thread might be worthwhile. Post your sports-relevant Coronavirus stuff in this thread if you want to talk about its effect on sports in general.

I'm disappointed NFL wasn't an option so I could cheat and be technically correct

But this thread seems kind of pointless, obviously any individual sport is going to have coronavirus discussion since seasons are being suspended unless you just want those N/V threads to die

All I care is if they're determining the NHL playoffs by point percentage or current standings. If it's the former I'm fine because then the Canucks can give up their 1st round pick for the Miller trade and I can stop worrying that they'll be forced to give up a lottery pick after the entire team is crippled by pneumonia.

It was funny watching the one guy who would jump the cue ball into his boot literally every time thinking "Hey no one can do this" and then everyone would match it because obviously you'd practice a shot you know is coming

They travel to get to their venues to race, presumably. That would be a risk, since traveling is not a good thing to do right now.

I mean, every sport involves a ton of people being near these players/athletes: trainers, coaches, fans waiting to see them when they enter/exit, etc. I would imagine being a sports star at any level , just like being a celebrity, means to you have people talking to you and approaching you all day.

It just doesn't seem like a lot of people to have to monitor. Like maybe 10-20? But I don't know much about nascar so I have no idea

I think the real issue here is that it's irresponsible for leagues to hold huge gatherings of people right now, regardless of the potential for athletes to get infected.

No I agree with this, I just don't know why you couldn't run the races anyway and just rely on the TV revenue and no attendees

Times that by 40 cars per race, add track employees and officials, safety personnel and media. Then add travel on top of all that.

Most ordinances are banning gatherings of 1000 or more people, and all those numbers add up real quick.

Assuming 20 personnel per car (which is a tad generous), that's 800 right there, plus 200 more series, broadcast, and medical staff, should be fine. Not to mention it's not an enclosed space.
