cosmin posted:if Deutsche Bank goes down, is it more exposed more on the US side or the EU? This is from a few pages back and haven't caught up to the thread but... I remember watching an interview with Yanis Varoufakis where they asked what would be a course of action for ordinary people should the eurozone crash and the value of the Euro diminish. Which he answered with that every eurozone government has a "plan z" somewhere in a vault labelled "Do Not Talk Openly About" which would be a plan on converting the economy to its own currency once again, and to get the ball rolling they would simply swap out "EUR" to "NEW CURRENCY" in any bank account. And the point being that the best thing anyone could probably do would be to deposit your savings in Euros in a German bank, because when the Euro eventually tanks then Germany will convert their economy to its own currency and since Germany is the only European country with a sizable manufacturing industry the value of their currency relative to any other currency in Europe would rise substantially and thus increase the wealth of anyone holding the new mark. I dno on the sanity of gambling on it, but he seems like a genuinely smart guy with little faith in capitalism. edit; if i were a gambling person and were to do this i certainly wouldnt be depositing in Deutsche Bank though. fanfic insert fucked around with this message at 16:07 on Mar 17, 2020 |

RajCooper posted:This is from a few pages back and haven't caught up to the thread but... Germany's manufacturing industry is a house of cards based largely on exporting the goods to foreign markets, as their massive age-inversion and low youth employment means there is little domestic demand for much of their product. In the situation you are describing, there will be very little market movement for the consumer goods Germany produces and industrial goods demand will be greatly reduced due to what amounts to a global capital shortage. This analysis of Germany as a safe haven is weak on the underlying fundamentals of what has kept Germany ticking over, and I would absolutely not bet my life savings on it.
