Just streamed the last quarter, v. good stuff from the Dees. I haven't watched much footy in the last couple of years but GWS got the rough end of the umpiring stick imo: there were about three holding-the-ball decisions given against GWS players when they'd clearly hand-balled.

Crossposting/drunkposting from the Coronavirus CSPAM thread. American here new to AFL. Out of curiosity is this safer than other football sports/hockey? Seems like less violent tackling or head use. Also I think I'm a swans fan...Sydney is a cool city right?

In the past few years weve had multiple people retire or sit out indefinitely due to lingering concussion symptoms.

To clarify, Melbourne is a cool city and the demons are a loving awful team. We hadnt even made playoffs for a decade until 2018, we got fans hopes up with two post season wins and then got loving pasted. Then last year we finished second last in the competition. We havent won the championship since 1964, and have only even made the championship game two times since then. We’re so bad its honestly hard to believe. We’ve also gone broke a couple of times, and in the late 90s the board locked out members from an AGM so they could force a vote to merge with another club (Hawthorn). Hawthorn said no, and since then won three in a row while we have continued to disappoint. Also, Freo vs Suns AFLW scoreline  80 - 10 is a fair smashing! Shades of Adelaide vs Geelong in last year's prelim (73-7 from memory).Also, go the demons in the AFLW finals  Genuinely feel bad for how unfortunate they've been missing the finals the first three seasons, so hoping they can go all the way this year. And hopefully get Sarah Perkins another premiership  Which would make her the only player in the comp to be involved in three premiership campaigns!

And I assume the AFL knows it too .. hence shortening the season. So they know if/when they have to shut it all down they have 5 weeks or so they can be without footy and they'd still be following a "normal" time frame. But yeah, it just feels inevitable at some point really.
