BisterdDave posted:Is it stand alone from the regular series? Not really, though it's fairly independent. It's got the same protagonist as the series, but due to the setting's conceit that you can just wear whatever body he looks and acts fairly different. The actual plot is largely self-contained and doesn't really touch on either season aside from some character cameos. On the whole I thought it was pretty decent, albeit pretty anime-y, with some really good animation in some spots. Speaking of, is it just me or was AC season 2 quite a bit weaker than the first one? Kovacs is basically least interesting part of the premise, but the season is so heavily focused on him that I found it hard to get invested. At least Poe saved it, as he usually does.

Everything I've read about season 2 makes it seem like it doubles-down on the parts of season 1 that I didn't like, and hearing Perestroika describe the animated version as "pretty anime-y" assures that I won't ever see it—not because I'm (necessarily) against anime, but because all the anime-y stuff in season 1 was by far the least interesting. But as with an increasingly large number of series, I'm happy to leave it with one season that I really enjoyed and moving on. Killing Eve, Riverdale, The Good Place... Though if the Blade Runner animated series actually ends up happening, I'm going to flip my poo poo if it ends up looking as gently caress-ugly as the AC series. That and Star Wars: Resistance are just offensive to my aesthetic sensibilities, and with BR it would be doubly offensive after how astoundingly beautiful BR2049 was. Not holding out hope, though, as the company doing it is the same one doing the new CGI Ghost in the Shell series, which doesn't look awful but certainly doesn't look as good as traditional 2D animation. Plus we haven't heard anything about the show in over a year so I'm fairly convinced it's dead in the water. feedmyleg fucked around with this message at 14:42 on Mar 21, 2020 |

The movie About Time is streaming on Netflix. It's from 2013 but I never saw it before last night. It's very sweet and well done and has a good message.

He accidentally changes things so that meeting never took place and she met somebody else a week later. Then he goes back and yeah tricks her into being with him. They do their best to make it clear that without time travel of any kind they would have had a connection but ehh it's still not great.

doctorfrog posted:It was nowhere near the same level of weird and gross and I was never interested in the relationship plot from S1, which at least was mingled with Kovacs's sister-relationship. I liked Altered Carbon season 1 a fair amount, but the backstory was probably the least interesting part. After I finished the season, I realized I would have preferred if the show was a bit more like the original Blade Runner: a detective story with themes of morality and what it means to be human, without the explicit backstory or envoy stuff, which I don't think added much. As for season 2, I didn't realize that Poe would be there. I liked that character, so that's good news. Overall, I thought it was a pretty neat show.

Agreed, I have my gripes and my preferences, and the detective element of "what the hell is going on," is fun for the viewer figuring out this world, as well as Kovacs, is strong in S1. S2, less so. But overall I had a good time and I'm just pleased to see unsafe investments in oddball shows like this one.

I watched 7 minutes of it while eating lunch and within 7 minutes Mark Walberg is a good cop confronting a bad cop about covering up a murder When he confronts the bad cop he is also beating the snot out of his wife for some reason so you are sure to enjoy Marky Mark whupping his rear end. Marky is sent to jail for this and pleads guilty for some reason, lamenting that he was guilty but did the right thing Cut to Marky's last day in prison and Post Malone is slobbing his knob about how it's amazing that a cop was not only able to be in the general prison population, but be the most popular guy in the whole prison. But oh, someone doesn't like him. The Nazis! who are creeping up on him for some reason. The nazis call him a "book worm". It's implied that he is very smart and reads a lot because he is now wearing glasses and sitting next to a pile of books. MW effortlessly kicks all of the Nazis asses. He is shanked but isn't even phased by it. He thinks it's funny. The cop who hauls him off let's him know he's lucky that it was self defense or he's be in trouble for whupping so much rear end. MW gets out of jail and we meet his girlfriend who is crazy and angry at him all the time, but only cause he is amazing and she loves him too much Then I turned it off. I might finish it just to see how stupid the rest of it is.

I watched all the episodes of Alex Garland’s (Ex Machina & Annihilation) new FX show Devs that have been released so far and it has been fantastic. Garland wrote and directed all the episodes so if you are a fan of his previous work you will be into it.

I love that he wrote and directed the whole thing. I fully expected it to take some sort of quality hit, compared to Ex Machina and Annihilation being a TV show and all, but nope. It fully feels like an 8 hour Alex Garland movie.
