Imagine going into round 1 with a forward line containing McDonald, Brown, Spargo and Langdon and being surprised why you can't kick a goal in a quarter of football. Not a single one of those players are natural forwards.

I think when football comes back it will be likely they'll cut a couple of teams and the women's league to try and recover financially

Simon Goodwin sits back, looking at his whiteboard, wondering if he should erase the message of "mindlessly bomb the ball into the forward 50 every chance you get"

Having the AFLW season just end like that feels like the biggest anticlimax I understand the reasons for doing it and even approve of the decision, but drat, that sucks. Feel the most for Melbourne. This year I thought, at least there's no new way for them to get screwed out of a finals series. Oh well! On the plus side, the Crows remain the reigning premiers

The stupid thing is that when I did the thread, the virus was still this weird flu in China which I thought was going to be like SARS or whatever - serious enough that we might need to keep an eye on it, not something that would basically stop the world economy in its tracks and turn everyone into a hikikomori. That was only two months ago.

AFLPA have agreed to a 50% paycut for players, they will put this to the AFL for them to accept. Most clubs have just cleaned out their staff lists, lots of layoffs today across the league. https://twitter.com/7AFL/status/1242011370268184576

They’re not going to get a cent from the vic gov because they were broke before this. Maybe scomo plays up his sports dad routine by throwing the two leagues a bone to stop clubs going under

Guardian column suggested the figure of $120 mil in the bank for the AFL, but also suggested this could cost five times that amount. I have a great deal of empathy for the clubs here because these are all proper sporting clubs (or under the banner of a regional admin ala Adelaide and SANFL or the WAFL), it’s one thing I like about the AFL. So fingers crossed they all make it through the other side.

The players are suggesting a uniform 50% pay cut rather than 50% total with the higher paid players bearing most of the cost. So they want the dudes getting paid entry contracts to give up 50% as well. Classy stuff.
