I just watched the Netflix Dracula series, the first two episodes are good, but then it gets really dumb. So Dracula wakes up in present time and is captured by a foundation that wants to study him, this is all pretty cool and a nice twist to the series. But the Dracula calls a lawyer and he gets let out so he can start killing people again.
It’s a really weird story decision and a lot of the episode just doesn’t make much sense.

From what I've heard, it just keeps getting dumber and dumber until it finally peaks in the finale.

I'm very pleasantly surprised that Elementary managed to duck all that. Holmes and Watson have a relationship that grows as the show goes on but it's never a romantic one. As least in the seasons I saw, I really hope they kept that up.

So i’m not alone in finding Preacher underwhelming? Don’t know why it didn’t work, I guess its pulpy feel transcribed better to comics than live action..

We had a lot of discussions about it when it first premiered. Preacher the comic is very much a child of the 90s, it's definitely not a "good" comic but I have fond memories of it because it was the first new non-Marvel comic I got into. I still love the characters and stories, and they just neutered them for the show.

After years of hearing about it, stay-at-home edicts by my state's Governor have convinced me to finally attempt a binge watch of the NBC version of The Office.

I say "attempt" because I'm on episode 4 and, if not for Jim and Pam, I would have shut it off 10 minutes into the pilot. That said, I've been told to stick it out until at least season 2. Thoughts?

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
The first season is really rough and the show doesn’t improve until it starts focusing on becoming its own thing and making Michael somewhat likable instead of a giant rear end in a top hat. Season 2 is a huge improvement.

Season 1 is rough but I think by the end it starts to find its footing. Season 2 is where it really hits its stride though, they retool the entire character of Michael partly due to the success of The 40 Year Old Virgin and wanting to build off Steve Carrell's sudden popularity from it. My personal ranking of Office seasons:

1: Rough but some good bits
2-3: Really good, and the show's peak
4-5: Some decline but still pretty good (especially liked the last arc of season 5 with Idris Elba)
6: Just terrible
7: Big improvement on 6, because Carrell announced he was leaving so they start to actually develop his character in new ways
8: Worse than 6, the show hugely suffers from trying to recenter around Ed Helms and the writers clearly ran out of ideas. I actually stopped watching the last few episodes and still haven't seen them.
9: Like 7, with the show concluding there's an improvement as they try to develop some characters and conclude arcs, but still a lot of dreck. Though the finale did get me, I have to admit.

So I'm using my period in isolation to catch up on vikings and am halfway through season 4 episode 15, when ragnar is on his way to king aelleto die

After ragnar's discussion with the blind driver I'm not even sure if I want to carry on. If he dies in the second half of this episode I think the last two episodes wil have been such a satisfying conclusion to the story of ragnar. It's always a twist with vikings, every season is a big curveball where ragnar is playing the long game and I think that's a shame, because I want so much for that conversation with ecbert to be genuine. His loss of faith in the old gods, and the discussion with ecbert about athelstan just seem to cap things off in such a great way.

S1 of The Office is rough because it's following the lead of the British show where everyone sucks and is unlikable and the humor is just smug chortling at bad things happening to annoying people. Part of the thing I've found about Michael so far is that not even Steve Carell makes him funny. He's just...dull. The only good thing about him at this point in my watch is when he's made an rear end of. Dwight is also bordering on insufferable. You can make a dweeb funny or entertaining, and I figure they do this in later seasons but, at this point, he's just punchable.

You definitely should. It gets a bad rap online now because it’s become so ubiquitous and popular, but it’s a genuinely good show for most of its run that managed to nail a bunch of emotional beats for a big cast of cartoony characters. It’s a bit like TNG or Cheers or P&R in that you really buy those people becoming a family over time. Once they start to give Dwight and Michael more humanizing moments and turn them from giant assholes into goofy idiots the show picks up fast and becomes a very comfortable watch.

There’s a bunch of great pairings on that show, but one of the best is whenever Dwight and Pam show genuine friendly affection for one another in the later seasons. The character has become a meme now but Rainn Wilson is so great at playing sympathetic weirdos with an obnoxious streak.

If you aren't liking The Office and you want a long binge worthy sitcom then New Girl is another great option. It's one of those weird "lets make a show centered around one semi-famous movie star" but it turns out the rest of the cast is so great she's the weakest part of the show yet still not actually bad.

I'm extremely satisfied with the story that was told.

Curveballs and random story changes is par for the course. This show loves a swerve and ragnar is always playing the long game. The instruction to attack ecbert almost ruined it for me, because just once I wanted him to be playing it straight. The conversation with ecbert about athelstan caps things off so well.
