I had a few issues with the pacing and as much as I don't shy away from judging betas/demos the pacing issues look like they might have to do with the reactor being sort of a tutorial zone. It felt very unnatural even for modern FF standards how everything was combat event > cutscene where they talk but it ends with an excuse for the next combat event > rinse and repeat. It actually reminded me of those gacha games or Mobius, but I think that's specifically the pacing of the first reactor. The characters not ever shutting up for a single minute took a bit away from the ambient, I like the idea of the in-world dialogue but they just can't stay quiet. The sentry guns were a bit annoying. These are all pet peeves. Other than that, here's what I liked: It was interesting to see how faithful most of the enemies were even with updated gameplay. I don't like action rpgs, I'd really have liked to have a turn-based combat, I really didn't like FF15's combat and yet against all odds I really enjoyed the gameplay in the demo. By the time it was over I really wanted to spreadsheet everything and find the optimal strategies and while that would have been pretty easy to do for the demo the mere fact that it already stirred that with just a couple of skills there made me really interested in the possibilities. I was really surprised at the lasers not being used on the way out. I could swear that was their purpose. "Oh I see, so these are here to make escaping a bit harder". I was really glad that wasn't the case. I'm okay with Jessie being the character she is, they probably took a bunch of that out of Aeris (or maybe not) so, you know, Jessie is fun in a really stupid way that is fitting. I think the tone erred on the side of too goofy but I'd much rather have that than it erring on the side of too edgy/brooding. Also, "get help" is the most horrible, Cloud-ish thing to say and I can't believe they did it and it's perfect. Seeing Jessie going rolleyes over Barret's loud speech was a nice touch too. Aside from Wakka, who was excluded for some weird reason. Then again, these are the X versions of these characters, so maybe he didn't want to take part in some kind of sacrilegious Al Bhed fighting tournament!
