I definitely liked it, but I thought it felt like diminishing returns and lost interest in the middle of season 3. It was never outright bad it just felt like it was starting to spin it's wheels and I just stopped caring and moved on .

I think it's a typical goon heel turn. A year or two ago it was just constant raves about how good it was, I remember because the show never really clicked for me. Interesting to see it now viewed much more moderately.

I remember the Joe Exotic thread from many years ago but this is so much crazier than I ever knew .

I've been ranting for years that a movie or documentary on John MacAfee would be the craziest thing ever to people who don't try to follow his hunter s thompson shenanigans. People just would believe it. Well I've been watching Tiger King and frankly he seems like Milhaus' dad now.

Loved seasons 1 & 2, stopped watching mid season 3. It took a dive into the poo tbh.

So that explains why he did not answer. He had no mouth to answer with. There is nothing left of him but his ears.

The Good Place is one of the few shows that I would watch as soon as a new episode was available on Hulu. The first two seasons were its best, but it was pretty drat good from start to finish.

A friend of mine described Tiger King as a Cien Brothers movie but it actually happened and that feels really apt.

Whether you like it or not, I think calling The Good Place or Russian Doll "mediocre" is some "peak TV brain poisoning". Both shows have a ton more effort put into them than the average sitcom.

Also if you bailed on The Good Place before watching the episode "Janets" then you missed out BIGTIME

The Good Place has that cheesy network TV look and script whereas Russian Doll feels like a long movie. They’re not comparable in terms of quality.

I wouldn't say I dislike it per se. I just think it's firmly O-K. But I felt that way about season 1 of it too. I wouldn't say it got worse for me, it just...kept going.

That's just a statement on the average sitcom. I wouldn't call a difference of opinion brain poisoning, there's just SO MUCH CONTENT to watch that i put up high standards. I liked both of them fine.

I saw one episode of Ozark s3 and thought it was awesome as well but also watching it in parallel with Breaking Bad and can't help but analogize the two.

The Platform was good. Obvious and blunt, but a very clever concept and worth a watch for sure.

Tiger King is going to be the next "Making a Murderer" with serious broad appeal and will be what everyone is talking about when people get back to work.

How do we not have a Joe Exotic megathread?

wormil posted:

For all The Platform condemns capitalism, it equally condemns socialism, both fail in the movie for the same reason, greed and fear.

How exactly does it show socialism failing do you mean the fact they keep killing people on the way down fairly ruthlessly when trying to save the dessert?

It's pretty easy to draw parallels between the 2 shows. They are pretty similar. Although Ozark is refreshing for the same type of shows since the whole family is in on the crimes and it's not just Marty trying to pretend he's not involved with some hosed up poo poo.

Also, season 3 was really good and the cliffhanger image at the end is pretty amazing. Hope season 4 doesn't take too much of a delay from coronavirus :(

Articulate your needs. I'm here to listen.
I really enjoyed the first season of The Good Place. Then they had the big twist/reveal I thought that plan made no sense within the universe and as a concept for show. The second and third season proceeded to show me that I was correct.

Also, it felt like they did the typical sitcom thing of having characters with quirks transition to characters who are only their quirks. Chidi went from having a hard time finalizing his thesis to someone who every morning could not pick which muffin to eat for breakfast. I have no idea how he survived as an adult.

The whole "immortal, omnipotent beings who also like this mundane human thing" stopped being funny immediately.

I guess I’ve gotta give Ozark another chance at some point.

I watched the first episode when it first came out and it was just so dark, with no humor or levity throughout, I just had no desire to continue.

I think my favorite part of Ozark season 3 is when he's talking to the road manager for REO Speedwagon. Gives his "investor" speech. Manager calls the band "Hey, this guy wants to launder some money, you good with that?"
