I'm actually kinda surprised they're upset by this. I'd assumed that this sort of "changing the character" BS outrage would be asymmetric: they'd be outraged if the woman's outfit covered more, but embrace the change if, say, the developers decided, gently caress it, Jill Valentine is just wearing a bikini now (probably claiming that it shows how confident she is or some crap.) But it looks to me like those shorts are actually shorter than the original skirt. I guess not having any promise of up-skirt shots trumps everything even though the camera would likely prevent it completely? I feel disgusting even writing about this, god gamers are terrible.

It's basically rehashing the whole "mobile phones give you cancer" scare that's been going around the past thirty years. 5G is in the gigahertz range so is a little closer to the level where radiation gets really dangerous, but ionising radiation is typically in the petahertz or exahertz range. 5G can still heat body tissue, but you'd probably have to be within arms reach of a cell tower to get radiation burns, if that.

Your mobile phone uses microwaves. Microwaves are lower frequency than visible light, and even the highest frequency 5G signals are lower frequency than infra red radiation (which is again lower frequency than visible light). Low frequency electromagnetic waves (eg light, and anything lower frequency than that) are low energy and non-ionising. High frequency electromagneticwaves (UV, X-Ray, Gamma) are dangerous because the are ionising (and so can cause cellular damage). Microwave ovens can heat food because they set up a standing wave which makes the water molecules in your food vibrate at the anti-nodes, causing heat through friction. I'm not going to go in to standing waves here but suffice to say your mobile phone network cant easily do that. tldr; as far as we know 5G is totally harmless, yes.

WARNING: revealing the following spoilered image will bombard you with radiation of over 600 terahertz! That's thousands of times higher-frequency than 5G signals! Really, not joking, this actually will throw that radiation right at your face. Uncover with care: As you've probably guessed, ~600 THz is ordinary blue light. Technical-sounding terms don't necessarily equal dangerous. Powered Descent has a new favorite as of 20:48 on Apr 3, 2020 |

5G is a little problematic because it can interfere with weather radar, but it looks like they reached a compromise to make that less of an issue. Originally a lot of the 5G conspiracies were about that connecting it to the usual weather control/HAARP insanity, but it seems like they've all fallen back to the default "EM bad".Skwirl posted:Why is the one guy blaming Sony? In TV, I learned early that fiction soon becomes reality, and many people no longer care about the difference. That's not the idiocy. This comment though: quote:I agree with Charlotte. Your a very good writer. 🙂 but I also disagree with a lot of this. I think..you have to take a look at America and the peoples disgust with politics as usual. The career politicians. Lobbyists. Nobody actually sees themselves as a villain. Trump doesn't go "neener neener I'm letting people die and rigging the system in my favor and nobody can do anything about it," he just bitches about being a victim whenever people expect him to be accountable to his position. An actual unapologetic villain I could at least respect for being honest, but the bad guys are bigger hypocrites if anything. 5G radiation does border on microwave radiation. It could theoretically cause irritated skin, assuming you get a harmful dose, which you might get if you spent time inside a cell tower. This hasn't been clinically disproven (last I checked), and is the worst case scenario. It's definitively nowhere near as dangerous as things like sunshine or breathing air that a car has been near. Plus, those borderline frequencies are already reserved for satellites and airplanes, and using them for other transmissions has been straight up illegal in most countries since long before anyone ever suggested 5G phones.
