SweetWillyRollbar posted:Looking like Tokyo and Osaka are going into lockdown soon. Lots of places are shuttering. I came into work today and my boss was like "You aren't scheduled to be here until the 14th." So that's neat. Now I have time to take care of tax stuff and clean my apartment. Also cook. I'm thinking I should order a case of craft beer from a local store tonight. You should. There's comfort in stockpiled cold ones

The actual best prophylactic against covid-19 is coating all your mucous membranes with teflon so the virus cant stick

That's probably a matter of keeping your mucous membranes moist, because the air on airplanes is generally extremely dry. It's easier to catch colds and stuff if your mucous membranes dry out (which is why cold and flu season is usually in the winter when the air is very dry - either from the cold or the use of heating), because the pathogens don't get trapped in your snot and mucous and get a direct line to your more vulnerable bits. That's my layman's understanding of it anyway. (I don't know if Vaseline actually would help with that). |

People put drugs up their nose for a reason. Stuff gets into the body FAST up there. So just be careful with other options, I know Vicks up the nose can be deadly (you are supposed to put it on your chest or neck and inhale the fumes) |

The grocery stores here aren't completely picked over. Still plenty of veg, not much in the way of meat though. Which is funny because it's something I usually don't really buy but now being home have a few things I was thinking of. Ah well. No masks available but that's alright. Just hangin' tight.Kind of bored.

No black beans, though. |

I bought a mapo dofu kit thingy and I kind of need mince for that.

Stores near me are now implementing hard capacity limits, which I'm hearing is resulting in big lines outside so I don't know if it's really helping. Also, a cardiologist who recently (like a month or so ago) treated my sister-in-law is now in the ICU and needed a plasma donor. Kind of a sobering reminder that the people on the front lines of this are only marginally, if at all, better protected than the rest of us. |

yesterday in NYC was not only a lovely day to be outside (even with mask/gloves), I actually managed to find some toilet paper and even a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer, hallelujah! it felt vaguely like winning some kind of lottery. amazingly, shelves of stores I've been to are pretty well stocked except for a few discrete items (like the aforementioned tp and hand sanitizer). long waits in line to enter the stores, but once you're in it's remarkably relaxed because they limit the number of people inside at one time.
