Whether or not it counts as a "saga", I really started reading SA regularly back in 2009-2010 for the Marble Hornets threads. It was fun following along with the series with goons pointing out details, attempting to decode secrets, etc., even if there was a lot of "oh boy guess I'm not sleeping tonight!!!" posting. I haven't gone looking, but I assume those threads are now a WaffleImages disaster zone.

It’s written as M R Cracker’s memoir. The gimmick account was basically practicing being in character to write it.

LF was, uh, explicitly not modded successfully, hence the secret service visits, the whole process was a neat SA saga of its own. The move from "Libertarian Ron Paul Lover Hideout" to "Genuine Influential Source For Online Leftism" to "Echo Chamber Farce" would probably make for a neat poli-sci history paper to some future historian browsing through the library of congress, if, y'know, there is a future. I don't know exactly what happened, if it was poor moderation, or just good people moving on to other places, but at some point that forum moved from good, informative effortposts interspersed with hilarious comedy, to folks posting "the only ethical action a sapient being can undertake is painless self termination" in animal rights/agriculture threads and being emptyquoted for several pages. CSPAM has a "no suicideposting" rule and its way better for it. And thats not even touching on how dumb the LF feminism threads got towards the end, which seems to have permanently killed feminism discussion on a fairly left wing website, which seems odd? Or did something else kill that kind of thread?

One of the funniest lf threads I remember was the one where you were taking a challenge of having a toothpaste mustache. Shave yourself clean and shave everything but the stache and see how long it took before people noticed something was wrong. The personal journals were funny and it was harmless fun for most people.

A great LF thread was, I think, a mod challenge where someone who was a total broke brain extremely online poster had to paint goatse in watercolor or something. They ended up doing a surprisingly amazing job and not only dodged a ban but got high praises from other posters afterwards for the painting.

When his obit was posted in 2012, it was the first time I realized that the Somethingawful.com Comedy Forums had a whole other side of very serious posters posting in forums I was unaware of and jumping off bridges in the name of women's studies.

I cant tell you exactly how much it was posted/emptyquoted, but it was more than one thread, it went on for pages. It was genuinely sickening. Folks had hosed up leftism till they had anime villain reasoning. Related, pretty sure TS12 was an LF poster, but they suicided (see loving above) after getting in a fight with a cop at a party, not because of womens rights. They just put in their suicide note that ppl would be well served taking a gender studies class, they didn't yell "Read Dworkin ya'll!" and yeet themselves off a bridge.

I like to think that some megathreads can be sagas as much as any individual poster(s). The long running d&d politoons threads come to mind, though I stopped reading them because they made me angrier at the world than I needed to be. I did like the concept of the gaybies awards and the generally high effort OPs in each iteration of those threads. As an aside, what makes a thread a megathread? 100+ pages? X amount of time? Vox populi?

I swear to god the juche forever folks irony poisoned themselves into being unironic DPRK lovers.
