e: holy poo poo, other than Greatest Showman (now owned by Disney anyways), Smallfoot, her very brief role on The OA and Euphoria, her entire loving career so far has been directly tied to Disney. :stare:

The woman has 70,000,000 followers on Instagram. I assume she has something going on beyond the Disney acting. Either that or she's the only kid out of that factory to have actually turned the machine to her genuine benefit.

Heh. Love the guy.

Probably was a combination of growing up during the cold war and Roy Scheider (of course bigger boat) but then Blue Thunder, etc. cemented it.

Actually saw 2010 in the theater. When Lithgow made his space walk it actually sparked a holy crap moment.

i mean, if we're taking that as the metric, most of the kids have turned it to their genuine benefit, for a short time. It's just they usually get thrown out unceremoniously when they get ideas about smoking weed or drinking or having sex with people, and then have to try and leverage it into being a "regular" celeb.

Dang it, hate when I agree with SMG but yeah THX is probably in my top 5, too. But do yourself a favor and track down a fan-restored cut of the theatrical version, the only commercial releases have a bunch of CGI nonsense in them. It doesn't affect the story much but it does pull you out of it.

That's true; I should specify that the best version is THX 1138: The Hybrid Cut, which is the equivalent of Blade Runner's Final Cut.

Not to be confused with the Director's Cut.

Yeah the premise of In Time is kind of tacky and inartful. Ultimately, it's probably also too subtle. I think Elysium is pretty much the same.

Eh, gently caress it. I've been thinking about it since yesterday, so why not:

Blade Runner 2049
THX-1138
Stalker
Mad Max: Fury Road
Alphaville

Specifically didn't count sci-fi/horror movies to make it easier. If post-apocalypse doesn't count without high-technology, then swap out Mad Max and Stalker for Eternal Sunshine and Day the Earth Stood Still.

The whole "time is money" economy was so obviously bullshit that I spent the first three-quarters of the movie being sure the reveal was going to be that the rich folks could just make more time whenever they wanted, and were using artificial scarcity as a means of social control. But nope, the rich guy just had a whole bunch of years saved up.

Elysium had one actually good scene (the bit with the robot parole officer). But the rest of the movie, in addition to being a little too on the nose, suffered from trite characterization, surprisingly bad acting by Jody Foster, and shaky-cam action scenes five years after Quantum of Solace was criticized for them.

I wouldn't even put BR 2049 in the top 5 sci fi of the decade. Off the top of my head you've got Mad Max Fury Road, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, Ex Machina, Annihilation, Melancholia, and Prometheus. I haven't even seen Her or Marjorie Prime yet, and it's a toss-up whether I prefer Interstellar over it.
