Five things from Bends, four things from Kid A one thing from Hail/Amnesiac. Post-Golden Age Radiohead is just OK; would never choose anything by them after 2004.

Yesss, Thom Yorke is doing an acoustic set at the festival I’m going to in the summer. Already got Massive Attack and Young Fathers on the same day too

I think The Avalanches are playing that weekend too, hell of a lineup

Yeah calling it a festival is a bit disingenuous because it’s just a series of day long gigs with no weekend ticket option (I think) and no camping but the lineups are normally very good.

Yeah, Earth probably takes second place behind The Eraser for best Radiohead solo project for me. We all know Ed is the band’s secret sauce, but it’s lovely that he can finally show off his prowess here. (Ed’s Scary Song notwithstanding, of course.)

Just listened to Earth for the first time and it's not bad but it's certainly no The Eraser/Anima either. It's not an album I can see myself revisiting very often. Banksters and Olympik were the coolest tracks.

It's funny to me to see this being the prevailing opinion about Earth. Because while Thom's solo albums have never really clicked with me, Earth is extremely my poo poo. Then again, I'm the worst kind of Radiohead fan that keeps hoping their next album will be a throwback to The Bends/OK Computer.

I guess I will be the one to voice his love of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. It's very chip tuney I know but it has a very consistent instrumentation and tone that I appreciate conceptually. Interference is just sublime writing and music all the way through.

I know have Anima, The Eraser and TMB on vinyl and I still can't believe how loving good Thom's solo stuff is. I think I actually like it more than radiohead in terms of consistent quality. I'm a huge electronic music person though so I'm sure I'm a bit biased :p edit: can anyone tell me what the last track in this concert is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7nbO8YRzts actionjackson fucked around with this message at 20:04 on Jul 7, 2020 |

I remember not thinking too much of The Eraser when it came out, but it really is a lovely, cohesive album worthy of deserving of its own pen-name. Each track really stands on its own but carries the Eraser vibe. The album peaks going with 'Rained all Night' into "Harrowdown Hill", which Thom said was "the most angry song" he'd ever written, so that goes for something. It really lends to the album's clean, darkly-playful minimalist tone though. Check out the video for Harrowdown Hill on vimeo if you haven't https://vimeo.com/6421959

I had to check the release date, to see if it was after Kid A/Amnesiac, because to me it seemed to fit in so well with those. I think it sounded to grim for me in 2006, but it captures the 2020 vibe perfectly.

I never really thought of the Eraser as grim. Maybe occasionally spooky, but mostly, it sounded very futuristic, the same way Ultaista would later. It fit the time more. I'm not sure if Radiohead quite does it for me these days, there's little prettiness in the world, but maybe I should just listen to The Gloaming a lot to truly get into a proper frame of mind for the current moment.

I did recently learn about the meaning behind harrowdown hill which was interesting. Pitchfork kind of poo poo on the album which is why I realized pitchfork is garbage. My one regret is despite loving radiohead, I somehow was not aware of the eraser until this year... 14 years later
