Yep. It sucks hey. Even summer up in proper Australia was too short and cold for my tastes. It's below 20 in the evenings already and it's only April.

It's been close to like 6 months pretty much stuck inside in the mountains. Everything from late spring onwards was either smokey, rainy or corona'd. I raked leaves today which I don't normally bother doing but felt like it was kinda worth it today for some reason.

Normally I would take them up on that but the woman I got the old one off on gumtree is giving me a refund because I got two bung washers off her. Both had door locking issues (front loaders)

I was a service agent for approx 5 years spanning pretty much every brand under the sun except Bosch (cos gently caress them for being difficult to their own agents). I had to giggle at the mention of 'appliances online' then when you said a Samsung it changed to :vince: You literally bought something worse than a Turkish made frontloader (Beko). While I think you raise a salient argument, I'm afraid I cannot escape what seems to be the inevitable conclusion that Thomas Paine's Common Sense was no mere moral appeal for egalitarian self-government, but rather a tactfully subtle drive for self-isolationist market creation that would easily settle within contemporary neoliberal idealist views of free-market capitalism and furthermore

Interesting. The Samsung I'm replacing was quite good but it was second hand and the latch on the front loader door was dicky, so I've switched to a top loader. All the reviews seem quite good so I guess I will just have to keep an eye on things over the years. If I get at least 7-8 years out of it like my last good washer I'll be v happy

Meant to tell you the other day to reduce the amount of detergent you use. I got a new top loader without an agitator about 18 months ago and half a scoop/cap is plenty for a full load.

My anxiety is related to treatment ending. Until my now I haven't really had to think about "what next" and now I do.

It's also a pain that covid-19 means I'm not going to be able to do the things I was looking forward to doing post-chemo any time soon.

Interested in what's wrong with the Goodguys concierge service because I just had a pretty good experience with it. Bought a Samsung tv from them over 3 years ago, 3 weeks later when the price dropped lower at a different store they refunded me 120% of the difference. I got $20 store credit every 4 months for the duration of the concierge period. 3 months ago when the tv had a fault they organised to have it taken away and looked at. They then offered a full store credit refund and extended the warranty on the new tv I chose for another 5 years for free.

Yep, similar experience here. Bought a dryer, dryer went wrong and it was swapped over no issues with a fresh new warranty.

I'm sure you already know this but extended warranty type things are usually not worth it in general. Of course if the price drops (and you happen to see it, and you happen to claim it) and you get a fault then it "pays off" but for the average punter it's a net loss.

Even when you get a fault, you're probably covered for repairs/replacement for a lot longer than what you might expect. Under consumer law, goods must be of acceptable quality and be 'Safe, lasting, and with no faults'. The lasting part means they should last for as long as you might reasonably expect that type of item to last.

For example, even if a washing machine has a 12 month warranty, you should reasonably expect a decent washing machine to last considerably longer than that. If it dies in 18-24 months you would almost certainly have a case for getting it replaced/repaired. Probably even longer although it gets less certain as more time goes by.

All you get with extended warranties is the peace of mind of not having to argue your case in those situations.

I bought a Samsung fridge in 2014 and the extended warranty actually was a blessing, the only time it's been of a benefit. there was a design flaw that caused them to ice up really bad in the fridge and then the fridge would stop actually working properly, so they fixed it for free but I think that was a recall style issue rather than a warranty issue. Still, it was handled under warranty with HN (normally I wouldn't buy from them but a mate cut me a sick deal on it and I got the ext warranty despite his advice not to, mostly because it was a ton of money for me at the time)

Yeah I have no doubt that's the case. I have a friend in a similar situation to me with a newer tv who didn't get the extended warranty and whereas I spent a grand total of 10 minutes on the phone to resolve the issues he's spent several hours over a couple of weeks and still doesn't have a resolution.

I think for TVs in particular I will always go for the extended warranty as their lifespan these days seems to be about 3 years.
