Exploration is ill-advised.
Rock a Doodle comes off as like, Bee Movie levels of weird and directionless, like they lacked a central thesis and just threw ideas together. Haven't seen either, mind.

Neat. Sweet. Petite.

Rock-a-Doodle is basically the start of Bluth's downward streak that only stopped with Anastasia.

It's not by any stretch a good movie, it did have some fun bits and isn't as weirdly horny-creepy as Thumbelina, Troll in Central Park, and Pebble and the Penguin after it.

He plays for the dreamers that forgot how to dream, and the lovers that forgot how to love.
I always felt that Bartok the Magnificent was a better movie than Anastasia. I got them in a box set, which is the only reason I saw Bartok. Same as Cinderella 3, got it in a box set with the original movie, hilariously Cinderella 2 was not present. Disney are pretending Cinderella 2 never happened but are fine with Cinderella 3. That's of course because Cinderella 3 owns.

Considering Disney had done a bit of pre-production work on a Chanticleer movie, Rock-a-doodle really does come across as being forced into production before anything had really been finalized and they were forced to fill in the gaps.

Also how is it Bluth came out of the gate with such a strong female character in Mrs. Brisby and then dropped the ball with practically every other woman/girl? I know he might not be directly responsible for all of them but goddamn is it jarring.

Robindaybird
Aug 21, 2007

Neat. Sweet. Petite.

Given The Secret of NIMH is based off of a book, that is more to the credit of the book than Bluth.

And yeah, Disney tried to do a Chanticleer movie for *years* before shelving the idea after Walt rejected it, I wouldn't be surprised if Rock a Doodle's basically him trying to do what Disney can't without considering why Disney might've said no about it.

Added this to the OP, thanks!

Even more animated movie changes (including one I didn't know was releasing so will add to the OP as a new entry):

Connected moves from September 18, 2020 to October 23, 2020.

Didn't know there was a movie called Vivo coming, but that's been moved from April 16, 2021 to June 4, 2021.

Hotel Transylvania 4 moves from December 22, 2021 to August 6, 2021.

2021, it moved up. No idea why it moved and no idea what the plot is either. There's nothing promotional but Sony officially confirmed it exists and will release on that date, though. :v:

I just watched Dragon Quest Your Story. I loved it. I thought I'd hate the end twist. I figured that it's the first time there was a Dragon Quest movie, they should have gone with a straight adaptation. The series has always leaned on tradition, it was weird they would even do such a twist. But I ended up really liking the twist. It even affirmed Dragon Quest's tradition.

Also the movie was absolutely gorgeous. The best animated movie I've seen since Spider-Verse. (I haven't watched too many animated films since then.)

I really enjoyed it too. It was neat to have a well produced high-fantasy CG film and my kids who have no idea what Dragon Quest is have gone back to it a few times. Apparently it caught a lot of flack for deviating too far from Toriyamas art style, which I was pretty okay with. Not that I didn’t grow up with it and love it but I think the design they landed on allowed for a little more detail.

The design they went with worked really well. Toriyama has a great style, but I thought they did a wonderful job with how they adapted it to their own thing. Toriyama is hit or miss when his stuff gets converted to 3D. The main character actually had a unique face rather than just being a Goku or Trunks clone.

If your kids wanna try out a DQ game out, let them try Dragon Quest XI. There's a really beefy demo on Switch if you got one. It's such a great game. Probably the best RPG on Switch. Its also on PS4 and Steam. But the Switch is the definitive version, with a ton more content.
