“I... see...”

“...Hhaah...!”

Before I knew it, I'd dropped to the floor.

I stayed there motionless for a few minutes.

“...Thank g...”

  • Interesting pair of options. Now I'm envisaging Keiji as a male soprano.

“U... Umm... Is that you, Keiji?”

“I'll open it now.”

“...Thanks.”

“What exactly... do you want?”

“...I'll get straight to the point, Sara.”

“...?”

“Sara, you're...”

“...Nwuh?”

“...............”

“...Waha...”

(S... Shoot! I made a weird sound!)

“Ahh, thank goodness... If you really were the Sacrifice, I'd have been pretty worried.”

“I-I haven't confirmed anything yet!”

“You make it obvious, but you won't confess... Sure enough, you're clever.”

“But you're still a bad liar, huh?”

(Hrrrgh...)

“...Whew.”

Music stops.

“...!!”

“Not gonna trust me at my word though, are you...”

“ 'Scuse me for a second.”

“Huh...?”

“What are you doing?!”

“...Presenting proof, I guess?”

Keiji went on inserting token after token.

“Ahoy-hoy...”

(Don't tell me...!!)

Music stops.

(The tablet again...!)

(A trade?!)

“Huh... So you were a Commoner, Sara.”

“Did you just trade?! Your Keymaster... for my Commoner!!”

“That proves it to you, right? Your friendly policeman's the Keym...”

  • If you decide against letting Keiji in or ignore him, he goes off to use a different Ring-Up Box for the trade and Sara ends up pulling him into her room after the trade.

“Uh...”

“That was a valuable chance for a trade! Why did you go and waste it on this?!”

“Huh... You're mad at me?”

“I'm not mad!!”

“...”

“We've only got 3 hours. No time to waste suspecting each other over roles.”

“...! I understand.”

“You must have an idea. Tell it to me.”

“Right...”

Talk to Keiji.

“Say, Sara. What sorts of methods could we escape by, you think?”

“We could search for an exit without letting the kidnappers find us out.”

“That’s true. Maybe we can avoid the watchful eye of the Floor Masters.”

“Sure enough, the thing we need… is information.”

“Where is this place? What sort of building is it?

“A floor map…!”

“Who among us would know something like that?”

“Kai... of course.”

“Exactly. Way to go, Sara.”

“Even if he didn’t know the details of the Death Game, he might have known something about this facility.”

(But Kai’s gone now…)

“So then… the laptop he left behind?”

“Yep. There’s still info we haven’t checked on that laptop.”

(...It’ll be hard to get back.)

“And that brings us to…”

“…?”

“You remember the place we found it?”

(That room full of rubble…?)

Music stops.

“Well, I did a little detectiving there.”

“You got a sec, Sara?”

“W… What is it?”

Keiji whispered in my ear.

“Wha…?!”

“Now, let’s move. There’s no time.”

“H… Hold on, Keiji!”

(Kai was in that room?)

“Sara...”

“What's the matter?”

“.....”

“...”

“...”

“...I thought, I should be thinking about a way for us to escape, too...”

“I'll tell you right away if I find anything, Sara.”

“...Strange.”

“Huh?”

“Maybe I'll lend you my aid, Sara.”

“Your aid...?”

Talk to Nao.

“I'll tell you right away if I find anything, Sara.”

Music stops.

“U-Um... Is something wrong...?”

“Nah, it's nothing...”

“E-Err, I'll be going then...”

“...”

(What was that sensation...?)

“Hm?”

“Did you just see something too, Sara?”

“Huh...?!”

“You mean Nao is hiding something?!”

“Dunno. Unfortunately, we don't exactly have time to confirm that right now.”

“Let's do what we have to. There's only ever one option to take.”

(Nao...)

“So, the Room of Rubble is past the Ruined Corridor. Let's go.”

  • There are a few people we can talk to first.

Talk to Q-taro.

Q-taro is sitting silently.

“Now, what am I gonna do...”

“Are you looking for leads on escape, Q-taro?”

“Don't casually switch over to conversation!! You freaked me out!!”

“I'm lookin', but... Sure 'nuff, nothin' new...”

“Kai's laptop... 's pretty much all I got...”

“Would be nice to persuade Sou... But he ain't leaving his room. And Kanna's with him too... Hope he don't use her for nothin' evil.”

(…)

Look at Q-taro.

I sense impatience from Q-taro...

“Maybe the reason he's not entirely at wit's end... is because he's got lots of tokens.”

  • For some reason, the Long Stairs don't appear in the list here until Sara leaves and returns to the Lobby.

Talk to Alice

Alice is gazing toward the Room of Lies.

“Um... Are you okay?”

“Hmph... Don't worry about it, Sara Chidouin.”

“My feet just naturally came here... I won't go any further than this.”

“More importantly, Sara Chidouin.”

“Huh...?”

“She said brave things around me... But her wounds may be deep after all...”

“If I did go back... I'd surely also...”

Look at Alice.

I feel... a quiet anger from Alice...

“That's no good... Feels like he's up to something.”

  • If you use Keiji's ability on Reko on her route, Sara feels Reko's sorrow and Keiji asks Sara to give Reko a hug.

Talk to Nao.

Nao is staring directly at Reko's body. She doesn't seem to notice us at all.

(Sure enough, she's acting strange...!)

“Sara... Not right now...”

(Urgh...!)

Look at Nao.

I sense pressing emotions from Nao...

“...There's no time right now, Sara.”

Investigate Reko's picture.

(Reko...)

Talk to Gashu.

“I'm terribly sorry... You may not use the Prize Exchange anymore.”

“I am cleaning up the prizes, so apologies if it gets dusty.”

Look at Gashu.

I can't tell anything about Gashu.

(Since I've hardly even talked to him...)

“...The time you spent together's important for this.”

Music stops.

“Huh...?!”

“...Looks like we're not alone.”

(What in the word is he doing...?)

“...This is it, meow!”

(A passage appeared!!)

“..........”

“...See, I can...!”

“Let's tail him.”

“...”

(Why did Gin know about this room...? If he just happened to find it, that's fine, but...)

Investigate the door.

Music stops.

“Okie-dokie. But promise me one thing.”

“...?”

“In the off chance there's something dangerous waiting up ahead...”

He really didn't waste any time huh. Unless he has 50 more tokens stashed away that was kind of a silly move. I would think rule 1 for this game would be "always have enough tokens to revert any bad trades you get".

NeoRonTheNeuron
Oct 14, 2012
Is it still too late to trade Me-Tokens? They never actually took away the tokens, so in theory, you could still trade the ones with your name to give them value. In this case, Sara could give Keiji a bunch more to spend if anything happened.

Given how the game is structured, however, I don't think this will become an option for us.

Wait. Does the current Sage's tablet constantly tell them the current Keymaster even during the trading phase? I had been thinking the Sage wouldn't get their "divination" until the trading phase was over and all the roles were locked in, but it would certainly be an interesting twist if they had the current info all along.

Of course, since this group seems to have gotten the idea in their heads that the Sage is the safest person to axe, maybe nobody would want to hold onto that card even so.

Nah, Mr Policeman's just walking around with a shitload of guilt and god-knows-what-else, trying to not to let whatever hosed him up happen to Sara (if not everyone else). He's a good lad, and betrayal's not really something I'd expect him to do. I'm more worried about some kind of almost-certainly-pointless self-sacrifice if anything.

The further we advance, the steeper the slope gets.

“Careful not to slip.”

“Y-Yeah.”

(Gin... How far did you go...?)

“Hm...? It's a dead end.”

“Ah...! Keiji, isn't this...”

There's a hole like a trash chute in the floor.

(Gin must be through here!)

“Let's drop down.”

(Huh? It seems somehow familiar...)

Investigate the chute.

This is where we came from.

“To think it would connect to here...”

Talk to Keiji.

“Well, now, I remember coming here.”

“If I remember right...”

“The place where Nao was hiding out and holding Professor Mishima's head...”

(It's pitch black... Was Nao sitting in the dark like this, too...? All alone... talking to Mishima's head...)

“Nao was despairing...”

“Amazing how she could recover from that.”

“...We're all getting stronger, bit by bit.”

“Yeah... But at the same time...”

“............”

“No, forget it.”

“...”

“I wonder if Kai noticed this secret passage...”

“Yeah, that's the feeling I'm getting.”

“Huh...?!”

“Whether he knew it from the start or only noticed while searching, I don't know...”

(Kai came to the third floor, and placed the laptop there... He's right, it's possible.)

“Wahaha... That's convinced me, personally.”

“...Alright. Let's go look for Gin.”

Investigate white door.

The white door is shut fast.

Investigate red door.

The door leading to the grounds where the Main Game is held... presumably.

Investigate black door.

Investigate the blackboard.

I can faintly make out some erased words.

(…?)

  • Keiji can't see the silhouette of Joe.

Investigate the blackboard.

It appears to be a blackboard. There's a list of names.

“Could these be the names of all the participants in the Death Game?”

“Huh... Now that I think about it, this could be pretty important info.”

“Might want to commit it to memory.”

“...Yeah. Bet there are people waiting for 'em to come back...”

(...Right. This... isn't just our tragedy.)

Investigate Joe.

“...”

“What's up, Sara?”

“Oh, it's nothing.”

(I'm fine... I...)

  • The red room is also locked.

Investigate the sparkles under the painting.

Something's on the floor under the painting...

Investigate Joe.

“...”

(Shouldn't look at them...)

Investigate the sparkles on the bookshelf.

There's something on the bookshelf...

The door is shut fast. I can't go to the Pink Room.

(Huh...? I wonder why? I'll check the door.)

Investigate the door.

It's locked and won't open.

“Ngh, this door... Was it always locked?”

“No...”

Taking a closer look at the doorknob, I found a dial lock on the side.

(I can just try every possibility, and I'll have solved it in 9 tries...)

“Hold on, Sara. There are little holes on the knob.”

“Holes...?”

“...! Then I can't get this wrong.”

“Sure there's no hint somewhere in this room? You should know what's up before you try.”

(Even though it was open the first time...)

Investigate writing on the door.

There's small writing under the doorknob. “Input the number of kiddos who can't drink.”

“Huh... Is this our hint?”

(It's a little sarcastic... But I think I can solve the dial riddle now!)

Investigate the door again.

  • Getting this wrong is a game over.

(How about 9...?!)

The handle turns with a click, and the door opens.

(Looks like that was right...!)

“Way to go, Sara. Now we can enter the Pink Room.”

Investigate the vent.

A heart-shaped vent.

“The door's open...”

“It's big enough for a person to fit into. Hmm...”

(It's pitch black through there...)

“It might lead somewhere else entirely.”

“Even knowing the dangers, eh... Let's go.”

“Watch your step...”

Investigate the figure.

There's some... thing here.

(It's almost... like a person...)

“A person...?”

Just as Keiji reached out his hand...

“This is Miley...!”

“K-Keiji! Get away...!

“...”

“No...”

“Huh?!”

(What does he mean...?!)

“It's just a powerless doll. Not moving an inch.”

“Wait a second.”

“Why'd you figure that?”

“...Think back on what's happened so far.”

“And...”

“That's why... I figured Miley was probably human...”

“Wahaha... Great memory, Sara. You're exactly right.”

“This doll is probably the Miley we first met.”

“First...?”

“After the 11 of us came together...”

“Come to think of it... We searched for the parts, then assembled her.”

(And after a white gas filled the room... Miley suddenly started to move.)

(A white... gas? That's right, the room that filled with gas is connected to this room by the ventilation...!)

“That's when the human Miley swapped herself in.”

(So that was it...!)

“All starting to line up, isn't it?”

Music stops.

“Let's keep searching.”

(I wonder if Miley is still on this floor somewhere...)

Investigate the window.

Behind the thick glass, I can see a figure that appears to be sleeping.

“Keiji! There's a person...!”

“Hmm... Doesn't show any signs of moving.”

(Do they not notice us...?)

“Can't imagine it's a survivor at this point...”

“For now, doesn't seem there's any way we can get to the other side anyway.”

“Let's leave quietly when we're done searching...”

Investigate door.

The door is shut fast.

(There's no handle... It probably can't be opened manually.)

Investigate fridge.

It looks like a refrigerator.

(It won't open...)

Investigate lights.

The light is brightening up the room.

(Why did the lights suddenly come on...?)

Investigate computer.

A computer tower.

(Better make sure not to kick it.)

Investigate table.

Machine parts are scattered about.

Investigate table drawer.

There are computer disks in the drawer.

(Hm? This one has a label on it....)

“Security camera...?!”

“Well now... We might've been getting filmed.”

“You don't mean... the whole time...?”

“It's not so strange... There's too many of us for just the Floor Masters to watch over.”

“Could we look at the footage?”

“Got you curious, eh?”

“...Yes.”

“We can probably view the footage on that computer.”

(Should we watch it...?)

Investigate monitor.

A glowing computer screen.

(What...? There's some video playing...)

(It's...!)

“I didn't know!! I didn't know anything!!”

“You're listening there, aren't you?! Help meeee...!!”

“Hey! Say something back!! I won't tell anyone...!! I promise!!”

“...? Is this a video recording...?”

“Why... why is all this necessary?!”

(She...?)

“I've got no qualms!! I just want to live in peace...!!”

“...Ooghhh...”

Music stops.

“Don't tell me...”

“Wha...?!”

“AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!”

“...No...!!”

“I have no idea what's going on...!! This... this video...!!”

“But... He said your name...”

“I don't know why...!!”

“Sara....”

“No way...!! But... I really...!!”

It's no use. The more I say... the more suspicious I look.

There's a double sized gap between Sou and Naomichi's names, so it probably said "Shun" originally and got changed to Sou later leaving a gap where the 'n' was.

This board was in Japanese in the original, right? Even the missing letter carries over.

シュン (Shun)
ソウ (Sou)

EDIT: see below, the name is シン (Shin). The space wouldn't exist in JP.

The board is written in the JP alphabetic order. Sou got lucky that his fake name happened to be between Shunsuke and Naomichi. (Q-Taro is the only exception to the alphabetic order, but perhaps his name literally starts with a Q in the Japanese version.)

“But from what we can see in this video... It's Q-taro who placed the cards first. Sou just saw him and adopted it, that's all.”

“No way...!”

Music stops.

“Well, there's not much video left.”

(It was all true...)

Some mysteries solved, others added. Keeping my hazy feelings in check, I let the remaining bit of video play.

“Are Joe and Kai talking about something?”

(Joe never told me about anything like this...!)

“Hmm... That's everything of note in the footage.”

“You hold onto this disk, Sara.”

“Why did this... happen to me...”

“Is there... someone there?”

“Ahh, this sucks rear end... Seriously...?”

“Sure, my life was pretty boring, and I didn't care about the future... But now...?”

“Sniff...”

“W-What?! The collar's... tightening...!! Stop ittt! I can't breathe...!!”

The thing with ZTD is the bullshit nature of the trials is their very point. If the participants don't know which will do what, it creates a far greater divergence in possible outcomes due to the indecisive nature of choosing between them.

To be fair, we're not actually seeing the whole trial here, just how they failed. Remember Sara and Joe's own trial had the key hidden within the key that got both out instead of just one.

yeah, its possible there was a clue to not make it a 50/50, and they just didn't see it. Sara and Joe's trial was basically a 50/50 too except they figured out the trick

I guess, immediately jumping to mind is... I know likely "well if she didn't point it at herself her choker would kill her." But like... her arms don't look locked in place... Shoot... shoot the guns away from you?

If it's set-up like the later revolver game that Sara went through, the trick is indeed probably shooting at something else to work out which is loaded with blanks.

I wonder how much these other participants will matter in the future, seeing as they went through the trouble of making design for them.

Im going to guess that they were having a bit of fun with the concept and design, but with regards to actual plot they are extras.

Well good to know that Q-Taro has been playing games right from the start. He must have been picking up cards right from the start looking for a good one. Though how he knew what was good and what was bad is beyond me.

Q-Taro would also be easy to bribe into doing it for the masterminds with even vague promises of aid and help.
