Tumblr isn't that bad. Its at least better than twitter. The main problem is how the site is set up where its hard to have a convo with people. Reblogging is overkill and too cumbersome and the chat is pathetic. I had to switch over to Twitter if I wanted to meet other people (especially other trans people). It's a shame because I loved how you can really customize how your blog looks vs twitter where all you can do is change the header (boring). If tumblr had a better way to talk to people and make new friends, I never would have left. I still go on there every now and then but it's a ghost town compared to pre porn ban tumbr. :smith:

(Later she backpeadaled to saying that Lilo was a "realistic" child but a bad role model for children.) It was her friend that insisted Lilo and Stitch was racist against white people because of a cut scene from the movie where Lilo freaks out some white tourists who were going all "Ooooo a ~native girl~" to her by yelling about a tsumani on the beach. For some reason they thought the movie was set in the 70s, when "beat up a white kid day" was totally a thing in Hawaiian schools.

the fact that posts on your dashboard don't have easy-to-see dates on them is incredibly stupid, and misinformation is easy to spread because even if the OP of a thread makes a correction/apology later there's no guarantee anyone will ever see it lmao, at least noted bad website twitter has that functionality

tumblr was pretty much livejournal 2. i can't think of much that was fundamentally different about them on a purely community-based level. lots of cool and highly underrated creators, teeming with young creative energy, but also full of deep and terrifying rabbit holes you can fall down that lead to nests of abusers, nazis, and petty tyrants lording over inconsequential fiefdoms.

Because sometimes if you're a big enough rear end in a top hat you can berate everyone else into agreeing that you were right the whole time and turning on the other person who was, factually, not in the wrong just because you were louder and more popular.

And if that doesn't work then you can just go silent for a little while and a few months, or a year, later come back and even if you did some heinous poo poo be like "lol look at me, I'm the cancelled man from cancelled land, let's all joke about the awful poo poo I did" and still be a youtube superstar just like you used to be. Or, in some cases, just go back on comedy tour and bounce right back with a comedy special while still joking about the bullshit you did and your fans. In either case your massive fanbase will be sending daily death threats to the people who didn't like you and the harassment might get so bad they genuinely just have to move or something. But who cares about that.

That bit where they went on a long screed about Hawaiian culture really threw me for a loop. They used phrases like "Any True Hawaiian would know..." which is just not great, but it was all based on the second hand account of their rather clearly biased parents' accounts of growing up in the 70's. Anyway I know a guy who came here from the military and when he was first assigned to the local base one of the guys he'd been working along aside, who was a local himself, began to tell him all sorts of hilarious stories about "kill a haole day" and when he got here he was pretty much making GBS threads in his pants afraid that just roving gangs of hawaiians would murder him for being white. And he still is.

A dumb take from almost 20 years ago isn't the same thing as predatory behavior towards teenagers. It was insinuated, with no one coming forward as an actual victim, that John Green was a predator. If even one person had accused John Green of actual predatory conduct we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Anyway the Green brothers are frustrating neolibs but that's not an excuse to spread homophobic insults or accuse them of sex crimes.

Aside from all the bizarre misreadings of the themes related to Lilo and Stitch as characters, pinging the date as anything besides the "then current day" of when the movie came out was so strange, too. Kind of makes me wonder if they were looking for an excuse to rant about how "white people are the real minorities in Hawaii" and took that as the first flimsy justification they could find. The movie doesn't hit you over the head with when it's set but they show early 2000s poo poo like flip phones and a Volkswagen New Beetle at different points.

loving hell, lots to catch up on. Normallly 125 unread posts strike fear into the brain, but a lot of it was an interesting and sobering read.

A nail was definitely hit when someone said that the right have a certain common good to fall back on and the left struggle to agree on what progress actually entails. Not that this necessarily stops right wing-laced communities from eating themselves and each other -- look at what happened to the big YouTube skeptic folks, the anti-SJWs and all that. The one picture of all of them at VidCon a couple years ago holding up the Kekistani flag is so freaking funny to look at now 'cause it's pointing out people and saying "they hate each other now, so do they, that one helped kill a British political party, that one ended up setting fire to his nipples on a live stream for superchat money, none of these people really liked each other and it's almost like they're pretty much all a bunch of grifters in the first place" and so on.

But...yeah, lot of depressing things. I wish that certain communities on Twitter were better but hey-ho. The very thought of people actually defending the actions of Alice Avizandum saddens me (and...bah -- names should be named), but then it's not what you know is it? It's who you know, and if you've got mates then they'll help you justify most any utter poo poo.

I tire hard of self-obsessed arrogant pricks who have nothing positive or proactive to ever contribute anywhere but instead just puke out toxicity and eat each other up. It's probably why I try not to involve myself too much in the world of politics and social justice anymore. It was warping my brain.

John Green setting his novel's romantic climax in the Anne Frank house and saying poo poo like "Anne Frank just died of illness like most people" definitely rubbed me the wrong way and the post editing to be about sucking dick was funny.

He made a response to it where he was like "I'm not even offended for me... I'm offended for people who really do enjoy sucking dick because there is nothing wrong with sucking dick!!" which was even funnier cause like half the people making fun of him were gay teens.
