honestly as soon as I saw that dumbass cringey “TLOU2 is about hate” comment from Druckman I was out. when I said that combined with the gross sadistic first trailer made me not interested to play this game and concerned that this game’s story would just be edgy grimdark bullshit the posters jumped all over me. on this day I am happy to be vindicated but mourn the loss of those brave posters who believed wrongly, but nevertheless so ardently in their cause. may they Rest In Peace

Post apocalyptic games about cycles of violence is already such a saturated space that you definitely need to bring something new to the table and it seems like naughty dog is just leaning into lovely tropes instead. Like Nier and LISA are top tier games in this genre and I can't really see TLOU 2 doing anything to top them or set itself apart from other "cycles of violence" games in any way.

I guess the problem is that it doesn’t matter how many people (myself included) cattily post in this thread making fun of how generic and lovely the leaked plot is because there are like a billion guys out there who are going to play this and do the soy face when they finally “get” the incredibly blunt messaging of the game. See the continued success of franchises like Westworld and Dad of War. Basically, never put any faith in AAA western game writers.

This seems like a story that would work perfectly fine in a movie or a book but completely misses that the unique part of games as a storytelling medium is the player interactivity and ability for them to put themselves in the protagonist's shoes. I can't see any way the game goes "alright now kill ellie" and the first reaction of most players won't be "uhhh no?"

Then you get whack rear end poo poo like Rafe saying that the Drake's "don't kill in cold blood" as though Nathan himself hasn't snapped 4,000 unsuspecting necks in a single game alone. I just got major Hauser brother vibes from U4, where the game was just a vehicle to tell this banal story and they begrungingly made the player interact with their movie sometimes. Druckman was too busy working on TLoU2 to work on Lost Legacy so it has none of those problems and is actually a compelling adventure full of charm and whit. Whodathought.

I dont think the spoliers sound bad imo and i dont think the more outlandish ones are true trans evil character, christian bigot cult . But at the same time is really not an interesting story and im not interested in torture porn: the game specially if the core foundation is "humans are more bad than the mindless fungii zombie LOL" then again the awful GOT season 8 spoilers were almost all true so who the gently caress knows
