Relapse dropped another live Death album (if you didn't hear the 1995 one you can here, it's super sick) this time from 1988 and all SBG material.

Yeah, Abysswalker and Fireseeker are straight up Dark Souls.

There are also songs inspired by The Witcher and Highlander, among others.

as an ex christian, I can kinda get this. christians might enjoy the heaviness but I don't think they can allow themselves to channel the evil, and if they can, they aren't really christian.

When they tried to indoctrinate me that's literally what they said. The message was along the lines of "even if you somehow found some metal songs where the lyrics aren't satanic (because it was a blanket assumption that all metal songs are glorifying the devil) you have to be careful about how the music makes you feel because those emotions might make you have sex or do drugs!!"

Not sure if right thread

So I've been jizzing over Archspire for about 6 months now. (only just discovered their 1st hidden album on youtube this morning) Saw them live, blew my mind etc etc. My other musical inclinations at the moment are

Aborted
Infant Annihilator (gently caress the new album is a loving masterpiece)

I also discovered a band on Spotify called First Fragment that I loving love.

Unfortunately my spotify recommendations have been really off so that's about all I have at the moment.

Can anyone else recommend any extremely technical, clever brutal tech-death that's not stupid noodly (not big fan of Rings of Saturn), amazing drumming and 16 string guitars and 48 string fretless basses?

Archspire is top of the pile, I just dont want to get sick of it so the other bands I've listed have been filling the void till I find something else...

Bands that kinda scratch the same itch as Archspire are

Alter Beast
Gorod
Obscura
Beyond Creation
Necrophagist

, although these bands aren't what most death metal fans would call brutal technical death metal. For that, you want

Cryptopsy
Defeated Sanity
Decrepit Birth
Disgorge (US)

, but be aware that this is a distinctly different sound.

Thanks to both you and CRIP EATIN BREAD, I found that Beyond Creation hasn't quite scratched that itch that First Fragment did (same bassplayer, I think?) I loving love insane noodly bass lines.

I'll check out the rest of your list... I'm leaning more towards intelligent song writing than just slamming bangers but I do like a good chugga chugga every now and again. Archspire's songwriting is just so thorough and immaculately composed, I can't flaw it.
Thanks.

Honestly, it sounds like you'd like most of Unique Leader Records catalog, and a lot of good stuff has already been posted. I'm more partial to the brutal tech than the technical brutal. Defeated Sanity is the best band and they have a new song premiering tomorrow!

il_cornuto

Bit of a different sound but maybe try giving Katalepsy a try for some tech death that's more groovy than noodly.

First Fragment includes Phil Tougas who was also in Zealotry (might scratch a similar itch but without the classical elements) and who fronts Chth’eilist (not similar but you should check them out anyway because they rule).

New Defeated Sanity preorders are up today: https://defeatedsanity.bandcamp.com/album/the-sanguinary-impetus

One of my favorite bands and this preview track already sounds fantastic. Still bummed their show here got cancelled.

Other new things today:

Fluids (Mortician EP and pretty nsfw collection of art if you haven't seen them before): https://maggotstomp-fluids.bandcamp.com/album/ignorance-exalted

Infestment (Cannibal Corpse worship): https://infestment-maggotstomp.bandcamp.com/album/human-altar

I didn't care for the vocals on Infestment, but some people might be into it.

Heads-up: Bandcamp is waiving its cut of every sale again today, and will do so again on June 5th and July 3rd (the first Friday of each month). Good opportunities to support your favourite indie and unsigned noise during these tour-less times, IMHO.
