As long as it's magical damage. Sapient pearwood is immune to all forms of magic, which is why the Luggage is more valuable than anything that can possibly be placed inside it.

The Luggage would be hibernating during lockdown, though. It only walks around when its owner is going somewhere.

Oh, yeah and that too.
I would assume that The Luggage would survive anything given its stubborness.
We are talking about the same kind of furniture that goes swimming to catch sharks and jump on them.

I got this title for the dumbest fucking possible take on sea shanties. Specifically, I derailed the meme thread because sailors in the 18th century weren't woke enough for me, and you shouldn't sing sea shanties. In fact, don't have any fun ever.

On Pterry's 72nd birthday, Narrativia have announced a new production deal for Discworld adaptations. Hopefully this one will go better than The Watch, where it's looking like Rhianna and Rob were shoehorned out.

Does anyone know why there isn't an official Unseen University t-shirt/sweater?

That seems like a missed opportunity for lucrative merchandising.

There used to be a hell of a lot more merch in the late 90s/early 2000/ golden era. Clarecraft, Stephen Briggs, Bernard Pearson were all putting out lots of stuff.

They were remembering who they were not singing it with, thought Vimes. You'll learn. I know you will.

A core tenet of the Watch books is that cops are bastards so...
I probably wouldn't adapt them NOW, mind, but it doesn't have to be forever I don't think

Yeah, I would argue that the Watch books are the only cop books you could get away with adapting right now: the Day Watch from Guards, Guards and Men at Arms are the closest equivalent to the cops of today, and they are unambiguously the villains in both books.

But the Night Watch are only good because at first they have no power, and later because of Vimes. As soon as Fred Colon gets a sniff of authority he becomes a villain - albeit a very ineffectual one.

You could make Night Watch (the book) into a thing now I feel, with some liberties. Vimes as the idealistic officer who sees how much the Watch are bastards, and Keel as the cop who's learned from that and is... Well, a different sort of bastard.

Or there could be things with Thud!, although the very much racial tension in that would need to be very carefully handled.

"Defund the police" and "abolish the police" are about a million miles from becoming uncontroversial mainstream accepted ideas. The entire genre of detective detectoring stories is not going to disappear overnight because the Extremely Online Left has a new slogan.
