I did the free week of Cinemax to watch Contagion and forgot to cancel it so now I paid 10 bux for another month of this crap. Anything worth watching on there in the meantime to not feel l just flushed a tenner down the toilet?

I don't have Cinemax, but both the Knick and Quarry were produced by them so they should be on there. Excellent shows, though it's only fair to warn you that Quarry was cancelled after one season and it's gonna leave you wanting more.

Anything worth watching on there in the meantime to not feel l just flushed a tenner down the toilet? Quarry (shame no season 2) and Banshee if you haven't seen it yet. Outcast had a decent season 1, but it took so long for season 2 to come out I forgot all about it until now. Also that Mike Judge tour bus show is good. My 2 favorite episodes were the George Clinton and Waylon Jennings ones (that said I am a big fan of both artist). I do plan to get HBO Max when it comes out, and I have The Knick and Warrior on my list to watch from Cinemax. Edit: Am I wrong to assume that all the Cinemax shows will be available to HBO Max subscribers? I haven't read about HBO Max in awhile, but I assume it is HBO Now + All CInemax content + Warner Brothers content + stuff HBO bought the rights to (like Friends) + new original programming (like the Anthony Bourdain documentary). I really enjoy Curb. It's one of my favorite series. Unfortunately I am uncomfortable how they depict Muslims, even relative to how they portray other minority groups.

This is a difficult ask but what would people say are the next best Netflix drama series after Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul? Foreign or domestic. I was rolling my eyes and shutting poo poo off 5 minutes into Ozark/House of Cards, and the same by the end of episode 2 of Halt and Catch Fire.

Might be the obvious choice but Mad Men, if you haven't watched it. It's not a crime drama but it's great and on Netflix. Other than that I think the Sopranos is on Prime and it's in a very similar vein.

Speaking of Netflix crime dramas, I think it might have been mentioned before but I watched Giri/Haji, a Japanese-British show about a Tokyo detective sent on a clandestine mission to London to find his estranged criminal brother, who has run afoul of the Yakuza. It's ultimately a character-driven piece about people trying to figure out what it means to "do the right thing." Quite touching by the end. On top of that, Kelly MacDonald stars

I could probably watch Sopranos again since i saw it as a teen and remember basically ZERO except "I liked the one episode in a wintery forest with a foreign guy???" and the ending. It would basically be like watching it for the first time at this point. I should probably watch Mad Men, yeah. I know the greater plot points/ending and have seen maybe 4-5 eps Top Boy is intriguing, I'm diving right in. Picks like this are much appreciated since the stuff whose quality i know least about are netflix originals and international shows and this is both

I watch a lot from the home gym but find it hard to follow shows with subtitles while I’m working out.

Ozark is more cynical / nihilistic. It is not better than BB, especially since BB completely stuck the landing and we have no idea if Ozark will follow suit.

Breaking Bad had half a dozen characters developed and interesting enough that they could have their own spin-off and it would stand up. Ozark's bench of supporting characters is far weaker and I don't think Marty and Wendy even come close to Walt and Jesse.

I would say that honestly, Ruth is the only character on Ozark that would negatively impact the show if she left / died. None of the other characters stand out in any real way. They are all pretty much complete shitbags with no redeeming qualities and very little to say as they try to ratfuck one another.

Ozark is better than Breaking Bad which in no way holds up today. Also Halt and Catch Fire never gets the love it should because of a weak first season and that's depressing.

Halt and Catch Fire gets really good. It starts out kinda trying too hard to go all in on a specific aesthetic and doesn't quite make it. But by the end of the first season and onward I was very invested.
