Running into some horse/pelt related weirdness lately - sometimes, trying to stow pelts, or occasionally the big skins like gator or buffalo, will cause the pelt to despawn entirely. (Last night I had a gator skin straight-up disappear off my shoulder approaching my horse. :aaaaa:) Entire carcasses are fine, pouched or hunting wagon loot is fine, just horsey stuff.

Haven't tried this enough to be sure, but I ended up creating a posse to make large camps, and so far that has worked to set up camp when small ones are failing across the entire map. Only two days testing so far, but it can't *hurt*...

Not great. Nothing great added. Game continues to be a bugged and unbalanced mess. I now only log in just long enough to do one daily to keep the streak going and more than half the times I encounter bugs that double/triple the time required to get it done.

I played a tremendous amount of RDO for months. In the past few weeks I started playing other games and it is GLARINGLY obvious what a goddamned mess RDO is when compared.

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer. I enjoy Online quite a bit but lately its become a "play to do a daily or two" kind of deal instead of just playing to moseying about. They're really spinning their wheels with it, even major bugs and problems take a while to get resolved. Either the team is working on something big or they have a skeleton crew working on it while everyone else is on GTAO because that's where the money is.

Me and my dumb little buddies in The Glue Factory have been playing Division 2 for a couple of weeks now, after getting fed up with the bugs and the lack of anything to do in RDO. We jumped back in the other day, just to see if anything had changed. Didn't find any animals, so we rode the train for a minute. The band in the bar didn't play, but we got a daily by standing awkwardly with instruments in our hands for two minutes. Started a moonshine delivery where I got stuck in a loading screen while the rest of the posse did the job.

I'm not saying that Division is perfect, because it's not, but at least the core gameplay loop is functioning. None of us have played much online before RDO so the difference between it and a game that doesn't bug out and fall apart when you try to do basic tasks and missions is jarring, to say the least.

We got our money's worth (and then some) with RDO, and I guess we'll return at some point to pick up more paintings for our bars and masks for our poor horses. We've all moved to different towns and countries, and the game has been perfect as an excuse to hang out and shoot the poo poo. Just roaming around hoovering collectibles and playing cowboy dress up has been satisfying. But after a while it felt like we were fighting the game more than we were fighting O'Driscolls.

I hope Rockstar is working on something big. Something to make it worth getting back. But I would not be surprised for a second if they follow the money in GTO and let the wild west die. I can't imagine they're seeing much gold sales as things are right now.

And the horsey/pelt issue didn't come up once last night. :iiam:

Camp... ugh. Started off in a previous camp location, got to camp and it's invisible, try to open a new once elsewhere hahahaha gently caress you, Cripps packed up three times and then it stopped letting me try, hosed around and fast-travelled, ran around and *finally* got a Grizzlies camp started right in the middle of Geysertown. Did camp stuff, then tried a resupply run; returned with the bag to...

Invisible camp, with the yellow map marker for the resupply. Which didn't actually complete.

:suicide:

Tried the rarely-successful "throw dynamite at the camp spot" to try to force a return - just as Cripps finally spawned (but not the rest of camp) so I had to ride off getting shot by that rear end in a top hat. Rode off far enough for him to calm down, came back and...

camp popped in. :catstare:

At some point, my moonshine operation disappeared - it was there when I initially logged in.

Maybe it's time to try glitching a solo lobby.

Even GTAO is in kind of a holding pattern right now. Besides F1 cars and some new Gerald missions, there hasn't been a whole lot going on in Los Santos since the casino heist update. Maybe R* has just slowed things down in general due to everyone working remotely. I think a big RDO update is still on its way, it just might not arrive until mid-June or something.

Do you ever think that some of the common problems in online are actually being caused by modders? The obvious ones will teleport you around and blow you up but the best trolls were always the most subtle.

I'm sure I've had hackers mess with me when I've been doing bounties, like preventing me from moving, messing with my horse speed or just teleporting me further away from the jail.

I don't know what's on those mod menus but would a "despawn all camps" button be so far fetched? or watching someone doing their delivery run and then just deleted their wagon as they're about to finish or even just boot them from the server.

Why are cheaters a thing more than half a decade after they were a problem in GTO? The only explanation we ever got from Rockstar was that the game wasn't built from the ground up with Online in mind, so there were vulnerabilities. So what's the excuse with RDO?

If you log in straight to your camp and it's not there, it's not because some cheater hit the "delete the camp" button as soon as you logged in. The Rockstar Online team just sucks at developing a working game even when they have the advantage of a good game being used as the base and the experience of having done this exact kind of thing before.

It's this. I got routinely trapped under insta-spawning objects and blown up no matter where I was on the map in GTAO, set on fire, teleported around, but the only time anything was ever done was when someone with a mod menu was dropping moneybags on everyone in the server. That "anything" was me getting a thirty day ban.

Are you guys getting all these bugs on PC? Been playing a lot on PS4 lately and occasionally there are bugs (camp not spawning, camp disappears), but the game is definitely playable like 90% of the time

I haven't really run into many bugs other than bird eggs occasionally being unattainable because the nest doesn't spawn leaving the egg hovering in midair, invincible. Also Cripps packing up my goddamn camp every time I turn around.

I've run into a lot less griefing in RDO than in GTAO. Generally that one little town in New Austin is a constant free for all with at least four people skirmishing endlessly, but other than that I've had I think two or three people in total try loving with me.

I recently got a PS4, mostly to hang out with my friends and it's been pretty buggy . I dont have a ton of games but I get dropped a lot, rdro seems to be the worst of the lot. At least 1 disconnect per session, stuck loading screens, sometimes no bounty, stranger prompts etc load in.

I've been playing on the PS4, on and off since the beta. It's been a buggy, but passable, mess since then. I never played the first game or its online portion, so I can't compare the two, but RDO doesn't seem like it's been thought out much further than "let's give the people that never leave chapter 3 an excuse to give us more money."

Which is all fine and dandy, to be honest. That was the appeal for me. But the story missions are a joke, compared to the single player. Hell, the main plot ain't even finished. And the hunting ain't fun when the animals don't spawn. Or the camp don't spawn. And if there's both critters and camps, there's a problem with posse members not being able to donate stuff to Cripps. So you find workarounds, or do something else. But then the bounties are messed up. Or you get stuck in loading screens if you try to do missions. Or the server kicks you off. We all have our individual breaking point, but eventually the sum of it all gets to much to bear.

It seems to me that everything they add introduce new bugs and problems. But as long as everyone keeps paying to drink from a makeshift well, there's no incentive or interest to filter the water.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but their whole online thing started as a mod on GTA4 on pc, right? My impression is that Rockstar threw together their own version based on that and by sheer luck stumbled into the biggest pile of money ever in a video game. Everything since then has been iterations of a seven year old afterthought. The code is old, written for a much smaller player base on last-gen consoles. There's only so much they can patch before they have to rebuild everything from the ground up. But why put resources into that, when people still spend an insane amount of money?

I don't blame them. I've had tons of fun with what is basically a free add-on to one of my favourite video games ever. It's been a great excuse to reconnect with and hang out with friends that I rarely see these days. I just wish it was better. And at this point, "better" is just a game where the core gameplay doesn't bug the gently caress out six out of ten times.

I know gently caress-all about making video games. But I'm pretty sure that if the golden goose had stopped filling their coffers before the development of Red Dead we'd have seen a better planned and more robust multiplayer.

the animal spawn has gotten better. it's actually possible to do the game play loop of moonshine and trader but it's not what it use to be.

I've been doing moonshine and trade together and I'd say doing all the supply missions and huting while your trader and moonshine meter fill takes about 2 hours.

edit: I also want to point out that I rarely at home with a lan cable connected do I experience getting dropped out of the game by rockstar but I went to my parents house for a week and brought the ps4.

All I could connect to was a wifi that was downstairs and I was constantly getting dropped from the game.

He should have been the protagonist of a Ballad of Gay Tony type spin-off DLC. Getting completely into the bandit lifestyle, robbing banks from a hot-air balloon, rescuing damsels from villains and the vapors, a gentleman thief who always leaves a hard-boiled egg as his calling card.

The shooting in this game is very satisfying. I know there are moonshine roadblocks and attacks at the end of trader sells but give me a wave/survival mode at the fort or something and that would be great.

The shooty moonshine mission on the boat and the free roam event on the train arent as fun because they dont let me use my shotgun as much.

Oh I forgot he was Marston's kid. Well at least he'll make it through this game fine.

The main reason I didn't buy RDR2 on release as I head the fast travel was super limited and I thought that would make an open world game unbearable for me, but it turns out being able to navigate anywhere afk is pretty much like fast travel with really long and pretty loading screens and you sometimes hear strangers pleading for help as you leave them to die.

I don't really agree that fast travel is very limited; trains and stagecoaches have pretty good coverage across the map, and if that's not enough, one of the camp upgrades lets you fast travel from your camp fire as a starting point.

That said, this is a game that rewards you heavily for not fast traveling. In addition to the world being beautiful to look at for as long as possible, there are loads of little random encounters and world-building events you'll come across along the road that really makes it feel like you're having a cowboy adventure. You eventually start to look forward to the long trips because you don't know what you're going to find along the way (RDR1 was good about this too).

The AFK travel mode does exist but that's like...much slower than doing it yourself, I think it's really just there for if you want to get up and take a piss or something
