Please let me know what you think the most needed or critical piece of technology would be to advance humanity on a positive path forward. It could be anything, bioscreening, mechanical hardware, a custom professional/free database, etc. Just interested in what you think would help people the most.

If only we had more machines! Just get some pallets, and put some machines on them! Then move the pallets to the right place! That will fix everything, somehow!

I don't know my dad never really cared about sports. I suppose if there was some kind of machine that would balance the budget and create a more sound monetary policy? If not someone already suggested guillotine.

Edit: I do like the idea of an milkshake machine that doesn't require servicing.

This. We will also need decentralized encrypted communication technology that cannot be jammed, and protections against quantum listening. I'm on a list now.

We desperately need advances in technology to remove carbon and other lovely things from our atmosphere. This technology is referred to as Direct Air Capture. We already have some, and here's an example.

https://www.eenewspower.com/news/room-temperature-carbon-capture-tech-uses-liquid-gallium

I believe that direct air capture is the only realistic way we will get our climate problem under control because the major sources of carbon emissions will not stop. We cannot rely on governments to enforce carbon emission reduction, and we cannot rely on the producers of carbon emissions to give a gently caress either. So basically this is something where we will not be able to rely on the planet to clean its atmosphere faster than we gently caress it up, so the only way forward is to clean the atmosphere actively.

There is a good byproduct of direct air capture, which is the production of elemental carbon. Direct air capture can be a source of graphene, and having a cheap source of that would be great for other technological fields.

How about we genetically engineer giant lizards, let them grow large and fat, and then bury their corpses far underground?

Or, how about we harness solar power to enzymatically fix carbon dioxide into a polymer form, that once processed, can be used as a building material?

Li-ion might be from the 70s but it's only a general name and there are many chemistry variations which are significantly improving capacities, charge and discharge rates, and costs all the time.

That said, yeah we need more and cheaper still.

Algae Bio-reactors are a terrific concept that sadly works terribly in practice. Turns out algae likes to grow on all surfaces like for example on the surfaces of their transparent containers causing less and less light to actually penetrate into the algae mass. They get less efficient the longer they run.
