I don't care about Trank, and the makeup in the video thumbnail looks atrocious, but oh man, Tom Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Kyle MacLachlan, and Noel Fisher? That's a good cast

I'm really Josh Trank is getting more opportunities, he deserved better than getting his new career sunk because of the events/drama of yet another stupid Punchman movie for literal babies.

Everyone in this movie except for the mom was born after 1995.

Also if this doesn't include Eaten by the Monster of Love by Sparks, it's especially dead to me.

While it might be traditional to cast people in their late twenties as high school students, it's not strictly mandatory.

Didn’t it just get renamed to Capone and moved to VOD? Sounds like a desperate attempt to get an audience that would’ve ignored it.

On the one hand, COVID-19 has made lots of decisions like this necessary, so it's not really fair to claim that doing this is indicative of the quality of the movie.

On the other hand, my god, this movie looks like poo poo, so why grant it any favors?

Just wait til the 80s are 90+ years in the past and people are like, remaking Sixteen Candles with the soundtrack replaced with Javanese electro-filk because "that's what people are into now, nobody would watch it with that corny old-timey period crap".

Oh wow. This could be good... but the trailer doesn't say much except it's clearly about racism (like most Lovecraft stories, but clearly in the opposite way Lovecraft would have done, the racist rear end). Can't wait to see more though.

Free to roam the heavens in man's noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe!

"and JJ Abrams" almost kills it for me at this point, although I'm curious about the extent of Jordan Peele's involvement. I hope the series does more with the growing dread part of Lovecraft and less with "boring looking monster comes at you!" part that the trailer seems to be throwing in.

That being said, Jonathan Majors was loving great in The Last Black Man in San Francisco.

I remember trying to read that and stopping like 10-15 pages in cuz it just felt stupid, though i forget why. Something about the plotting or characters. The premise seemed worthwhile though, so maybe an adaptation will work out.

I'm not sure how the show will change it but the book is a series of stories that all involve an extended family dealing with magic and monsters (and racism.) The first story is really the only one that's really Lovecraft adjacent.

Yeah I just started the book and really don't care how "true" to Lovecraft (ie trying to describe the indescribable) it is. That trailer is just oozing with style and sexiness and that's enough to carry it for me ha.

It's a very good book. Most of the chapters center on a different member of the central family dealing with some horror trope and the menace of racism, with the beginning and ending wrapping it together in one neat package. It does a nice job of skewering Lovecraft and inverting his storytelling.

Very interested in seeing what Peele does with it.

A lifetime ago, back in middle school, a classmate had a vhs copy of some movie with him in his backpack, I don't remember what specifically, some pedestrian actioner. He asked me what I thought of it and seeing that I thought it was kinda lame I said it was ok, nothing special. He took this a deep affront and barked back in perfect sincerity that it was "an action-packed adrenaline thrill-ride!" His taking to heart some review blurb/nonsense printed on the slip case blew my mind. You seem a lot like that kid.

A wholly fictional story about the writer of The Haunting of Hill House that tries to capture her writing style. Certainly seems more interesting than a standard biopic, and Elizabeth Moss is always going to be engaging on screen.
