Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
I beat the Okumura fight on Hard by stopping using Mapsio and instead using single-target Psi attacks to baton pass into Triple Down. And then I died to Big Bang Burger, but apparently that phase is trivialized by Forget.

He started doing that poo poo every two turns and I lost my poo poo at that exact moment and changed the difficulty to merciless. How did that fight make it past play testing?

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

Back when smt4a was new, Atlus missed some dialogue from the final boss fight if you were doing poorly or something, so there’d be a random japanese text box on screen and their excuse was “our playtesters were too good to see this, sorry guys!” So I imagine this was a similar scenario.

I'm just a normal, functioning member of the human race, and there's no way anyone can prove otherwise.
This is the first time I've ranked up the Devil confidant because I ran out of time (and also really didn't like her) during my vanilla playthrough

Kinda weird they decided to give her the only Confidant story (including party members) with a connection to the main plot!!! Her journalist friend was about to expose Shido and gets silenced by Akechi

Makes me wish they were all like that.

My first run I had to max Tower and Hanged Man in Semester 3, so at least some of them are doable.

How long is the third semester (gameplay-wise, not in-universe), if I'm playing on the default difficulty and rushing a bit? I'm on what was the last dungeon in the original Persona 5 now, and I'm sort of ready to finish the game and move on.

They certainly tried, what with the Palaces starting at higher security now and everything.

They also failed miserably of course, but you can't say they didn't try.

It's another ~10-15 hours depending on how much you blitz it. In game terms it's only a month, but the palace takes quite a while.

Sleep + Technical attack does like 2k+ damage and one shots him on Merciless.

I actually really like Merciless because it's basically a massive accelerate button on all of P5. If you know what you're doing, you get to basically bum rush everything because fights are so much shorter, especially since on boss/red fights you don't have to waste as much time buffing/debuffing. The only downside is because since you almost always one shot enemies when you do a weakness knockdown, you're going to have to grind a lot more for cash to fuel your fusion addiction. The upside is that because Chariot is a thing, you quickly get to the point where you just auto clear battles and the grind becomes ez mode. I seriously feel like I'm cheating or something. One 30 min rainy day run into an all red level in Momentos basically gives me enough gold/exp for like the next 2 chapters.

Also, the new "party member" honestly is... So loving dull? Like I'm surprised she doesn't have the Priestess Arcana. Now, I haven't finished the game (about to deal with the Casino Dungeon), but like her entire storyline feels so incredibly tacked on. Her interactions with other characters has all the chemistry of tap water which probably doesn't help that she the personality of a wet mop. IDK. I feel very mislead by the marketing for this game, because I expected her to an actual party member rather than a bland version of Marie. At least Marie was pitched as just an extra.

She’s got a lot more going on in the third semester, but her personality is still pretty limited to “nice, insecure, and fawns over Joker”. She never really interacts with the others enough to fit into the group dynamic beyond “extreme newbie”.

In retrospect, it's an extremely bold move to lock 75% of the new content of your rerelease behind the 100 hour RPG that the majority of your audience has already played.

it's literally what they did with p3fes and p4g, both of which tremendously outsold the base games, so I can't see a reason they'd bother to change the formula now tbh

Yeah it is. I don't think there's any prerequisites to it, aside from getting to the third semester, but I haven't gotten that far yet in my NG+, I stalled out after fusing the NG+ Persona for 100% Compendium completion.

The boss has specific phases it goes through, separated by dialogue mid-fight. If you don't fulfill the conditions, you autolose. If you want to know them:
1. Deal 5000 damage in 9 turns. (Exact amounts might be a little off.)
2. Knock her down via technical damage at least once every turn cycle.
3. Get at least one critical hit on her every turn cycle. This is what has been killing me because the RNG gods hate me apparently, even with buffs.
4. Regular fight to the finish. She will start Megidolaon-nuking you for massive damage until she keels over.

Yeah, it is kind of dumb. But they do drop hints through their dialogue.

Aha, thanks, it was that second step that really hosed me up. A few items though and I did it.

Nothing like beating the reaper in an honest fight on hard mode. I'm liking the challenge of these late-game boss fights; I was worried fusing Yoshitsune would make the entire extra chapter super trivial, but there aren't that many enemies that automatically roll over to getting tobi'd into submission.
